Season Recap

6/08/14.   We played in ten tournaments this year and finished with a record of 43-8. What a great season as we had many accomplishments and successes, including the following:

-  We won 84% of our games this year versus 68% (27-13) last year.  What a difference a year makes!

 -  We won four tournaments this year: The Battle in Barberton, Buckeye Championships, Combat in the Country and Summer Showdown

 -  We successfully defended our Combat in the Country championship

 -  We made it to the championship game in 6 tournaments this year

 -  We made it to at least the semis in our last 9 tournaments of the year

 - We went 8-3 in games decided by less than 10 points (5-6 last year), demonstrating our continual improvement in the mental toughness area.

The coaches are very proud of the fact that each and every player developed and improved their game this season.  Thanks to all for a great season!

 Summer Showdown

6/08/14.  Congrats to the Champs for the 4th time this season!  We went 4-0 in this one and made it to our 6th championship game of the year.  In our first pool play game, we beat SMAC Buckets (47-9) as everybody scored and had at least one steal. Jake had 11 pts, Tommy had 9 pts, 5 rebounds, 5 assists & 4 steals, Matt Salopek had 9 pts & 6 steals, Quan had 10 boards & 3 blocks and Amil had 3 blocks. In our final pool play game, we destroyed OBC-Pettiti (73-14).  Quan had 18 pts, 17 rebounds, 4 assists & 4 steals, Noah had 17 pts & 8 rebounds, Tommy had 16 pts, 7 rebounds, 5 assists & 3 steals, Matt S had 5 steals & Amil had 3 blocks.  We were supposed to play them again in the semis, but they decided to forfeit instead of playing us again.  We then beat OBC-Barba (49-42) in the championship game.  Tommy had 15 pts & 4 steals, Quan had 13 pts & 10 rebounds, Matt S had 7 pts, 3 assists, 5 steals & 3 blocks, Russell had 7 pts, 5 assists & 4 steals and Noah had 11 rebounds.  What another great tournament!  We finished 43-8 for the year. 

Combat In The Country

6/01/14.  Congrats to the Champs for the 3rd time this season as we sucessfully defended our championship in the Combat In The Country!  We have now won this tournament two years in a row!  We went 5-0 in this one and made it to our 5th championship game of the year.  In our first pool play game, we beat Air Attack-Turner (61-17) as everybody scored and had at least a rebound & a steal.  Russell had 17 pts & 5 assists,  Jake had 11 pts & 5 steals, Noah and Quan both had 8 pts & 8 rebounds, and Brad had 11 assists & 8 steals.  We then beat Lake Erie Defenders (54-44) as Quan had 14 pts & 14 rebounds, Noah had 12 pts, 15 rebounds, 5 steals & 3 blocks, Brad had 10 pts, Russell had 6 assists and Matt Salopek had 8 rebounds & 5 assists. Our final pool play win was against Marshall Warriors (60-26).  Quan had 13 pts & 10 rebounds, Tommy had 11 pts, 6 boards, 3 assists & 4 steals, Spencer had 9 pts, Matt S had 7 pts, 4 assists & 4 steals, Russell had 8 pts & 5 steals and Brad had 6 steals.  We beat Mid Ohio Basketball in the semis (52-24) as Tommy had 14 pts & 4 steals, Quan had 10 pts & 10 rebounds, Spencer had 9 pts, Russell had 7 pts & 7 steals and Noah had 3 blocks.  We beat Air Attack-Conley (62-51) in a great championship game.  We were down by 14 in the first half before we went on a 20-0 run to win a tough game.  Tommy had 19 pts, 5 assists & 9 steals, Noah had 12 pts & 17 rebounds, Brad had 15 pts, Quan, despite being double teamed the entire game, had 8 pts & 12 rebounds and Matt S had 7 pts & 10 rebounds. What a great tournament!  We are now 39-8 for the year. 

Primetime

5/18/14.  We went 5-1 in this one and made it to our 4th championship game of the year, but came up a little short at the end.  Air Attack-Spence failed to show in our first pool play game.  We then beat a tough Murphy AC-Blue team (57-45). Russell had 14 pts & 3 assists, Quan had 12 pts & 9 boards, Brad had 12 pts, 3 steals, 3 assists & 6 boards, Amil had 6 pts, 9 boards & 3 blocks and Spencer had 11 pts.  We pounded CoachG4Lyfe (59-28) in our last pool play game.  Quan had 13 pts & 12 boards, Noah had 12 pts & 8 boards, Jake had 8 pts, Amil had 8 pts & 7 boards and Brad had 7 pts, 4 steals & 5 assists.  We struggled against a determined Air Attack-Conley (56-51) in the first playoff game.  Quan was a beast with 21 pts & 15 boards, Brad had 12 pts, Tommy had 6 pts & 6 assists, Russell had 8 pts and Spencer had 7 pts.  We had an easy semifinal win against Air Attack-Vega (49-21).  Quan had 12 pts & 14 boards, Spencer had 10 pts, Jake had 8 pts, Noah had 10 boards, Russell had 4 steals and Amil had 3 blocks.  We were tied in the championship game with 4 minutes to go before we went ice cold and lost to a good Air Attack-Martin (62-52).  Tommy had 17 pts, 4 steals & 4 assists, Quan had 13 pts & 9 boards, Noah had 3 blocks & 13 boards and Russell had 7 pts & 4 assists.  We are now 34-8 for the year.

Great Lakes Regional Championships

5/11/14.  We went 4-1 in this one.  We continued our streak of making it to at least the semifinals in every tournament this year, but were disappointed in a double overtime thriller in the semis.  We started off strong with a big win against Tri County Elite (61-15).  Quan had 10 pts & 10 rebounds, Amil had 9 pts, 10 rebounds & 3 blocks and Tommy had 10 pts, 7 assists & 5 steals.  We then beat Prodigy (54-36).  Tommy had 12 pts, Noah had 12 pts & 8 rebounds, Brad had 6 assists and Quan had 10 pts & 13 rebounds.  We finished off pool play with a blowout win against Air Attack-Jock (80-18).  Quan had 16 pts & 10 boards, Russell had 14 pts, 5 steals & 4 assists, Noah had 12 pts & 8 boards, Amil had 9 pts & 10 boards, Spencer had 10 pts and Jake had 9 pts. We beat Air Attack-Rick (62-35) in our first playoff game. Tommy had 13 pts & 4 steals, Russell had 9 pts, Spencer had 9 pts and Amil had 5 blocks.  We then had a tough double OT loss to Aviators (58-55) in the semis. Quan had 15 pts & 15 rebounds, Noah had 9 pts & 7 rebounds, Tommy had 9 pts, Russell had 7 pts & 4 assists, Brad had 4 assists and Amil had 8 pts & 6 rebounds.  We are now 29-7 for the year.

Buckeye Championships

5/04/14.  What an awesome weekend in Columbus! We won our 2nd tournament of the season and beat every team by double digits.  We beat an athletic 4Kids (50-39) in our first game. Brad had 5 assists, Amil had 7 rebounds & 4 blocks, Russell had 8 pts & 4 steals, Tommy had 9 pts, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals & 2 blocks and Quan had 14 points & 13 rebounds.  We then beat Ohio Sports Plus-Madness (61-23).  Noah had 10 pts & 9 rebounds, Matt had 8 pts, Spencer had 8 pts, Tommy had 5 assists & 6 steals and Quan had 12 pts, 8 rebounds & 4 steals.  We beat Ohio Sports Plus - Bears (68-15).  Jake had 4 three's on his way to 14 points, Tommy had 7 pts, 6 rebounds, 6 assists & 6 steals, Spencer had 6 pts, 3 assists & 4 steals, Amil had 7 rebounds & 4 blocks and Quan had 21 pts & 15 rebounds.  We played tough in the championship game as we beat 4Kids (56-46).  Tommy had 8 pts, 6 rebounds, 4 assists & 6 steals, Russell had 6 pts, 7 assists & 4 steals, Noah had 10 pts & 6 rebounds, Brad had 14 pts and Quan had 15 pts, 15 rebounds & 4 steals.  Nice championship!  We are now 25-6 for the year.

King James Shooting Stars Classic

4/27/14.  What a great weekend!  This is the biggest tournament in the country, and we made it to the Final 4 in the Silver Bracket. We started off pool play with a big win against KVO Elite (56-40) as everybody scored in this one.  Quan had 18 pts & 22 rebounds, Tommy had 8 pts, 4 steals & 4 assists, Noah had 7 pts & 7 rebounds and Russell had 6 assists.  We lost 3 players to injury and had to finish with 5 guys in a tough loss to Severn Elite (MI) (39-59).  Brad had 14 pts, Quan had 10 pts & 10 rebounds and Noah had 7 pts & 6 rebounds.  Our Sweet 16 win against Flintstones (MI) (49-46) featured a layup "And-1" by Quan with 0.7 seconds!!  Quan finished with 15 pts & 17 rebounds, Noah had 14 pts & 10 rebounds, Brad had 10 pts & 4 steals and Russell had 5 pts, 4 steals & 4 assists. We had a big Elite 8 win against TNBA East (65-41). Quan had 24 pts & 10 rebounds, Matt Salopek (filling in for some of our injured guys) had 14 pts, 4 steals & 9 rebounds, Noah had 10 pts, 7 steals & 6 rebounds, Amil had 6 pts, 5 rebounds & 2 blocks and Russell had 6 assists.  We lost our semifinal game to a tough Michigan Titans (MI) (42-53). Brad had 16 pts, Quan had 13 pts & 20 rebounds, Amil had 11 rebounds & 2 blocks and Noah had 5 pts, 5 steals & 6 rebounds. Very nice tournament! We are now 21-6 for the year.

The Battle in Barberton

4/13/14.  Congrats to the Champs! We went 6-0 in this one on our way to the tournament championship.  We dominated pool play, where our closest game was a 25 pt win.  In the first game of pool play, we beat Murphy AC-Green (50-23). Amil had 21 pts, 8 rebounds, 4 steals & 2 blocks, Quan had 12 pts & 7 rebounds, Russell had 5 assits and Brad had 3 assists & 4 steals.  Everybody scored in our big win against Ohio Red Storm (76-17).  Quan had 18 pts & 10 rebounds, Noah had 10 pts, Brad had 10 pts & 4 steals, Spencer had 10 pts, Jake had 9 pts and Russell had 8 pts, 8 assists & 7 steals!  We beat Air Attack-Turner (44-19) as Tommy had 11 pts, 8 rebounds & 3 steals, Russell had 10 pts, Quan had 9 pts & 8 rebounds and Brad had 5 assists & 4 steals. In the quarterfinals, we beat Rubber City Kingz (62-31).  Noah had 17 pts, Quan had 13 pts & 10 rebounds, Tommy had 11 pts, Brad had 4 assists and Amil had 7 rebounds.  We beat a tough Cleveland Basketball Company in the semis (61-55).  Noah had 13 pts, 7 rebounds, 5 steals & 4 blocks! Quan had 13 pts & 8 rebounds, Tommy had 17 pts, Russell had 9 pts & 4 assists and Brad had 7 pts & 3 steals.  We beat CAK Warriors in the championship game (53-45).  Tomy had 17 pts & 4 steals, Quan had 10 pts & 11 rebounds, Noah had 6 pts, 6 steals & 3 blocks, Amil had 6 rebounds & 3 blocks, Russell had 6 pts & 3 assists and Jake had 5 pts.  We are now 18-4 for the year.

Ballers Bash

4/06/14.  We went 4-1 in this one, but it ended in disappointment as we lost in the semifinals.  In the first game of pool play, we beat Tri County Elite (45-32) as Russell had 13 pts, Quan had 11 pts & 9 rebounds, Noah had 3 blocks and Tommy had 7 pts. We then beat Air Attack-Conley (37-18) as Jacob had 10 pts, Brad had 6 pts & Quan had 6 pts.  Everybody scored in our win over D.B. Hoops-Siefert (56-31). Tommy had 13 pts, 3 assists & 6 steals, Quan had 13 pts & 12 rebounds and Brad had 5 pts & 5 steals. We beat Hoop Guru-Morsillo (54-44) in the quarterfinals.  Quan had 17 pts & 15 rebounds, Russell had 12 pts, Noah had 6 pts & 7 rebounds and Tommy had 9 pts, 7 rebounds & 5 steals. We lost to the eventual champs, Aviators (29-49) in the semifinals.  We never got going against this nice team.  Quan had 11 pts & 11 rebounds, Jake had 6 pts, Amil had 9 rebounds & 6 blocks and Noah 7 rebounds & 4 assists.  We are now 12-4 for the year.

Grizzly Games

3/30/14.  What a great tournament!  We were down a man as Russell was in SoCal for the weekend, but we still made it to the championship game.  We went 3-0 in pool play, as we started off with fantastic finish!  Brad hit a game winner at the buzzer as we beat a very good Cleveland Basketball Company team (53-52).  In addition to his big shot, Brad finished with 8 pts, 6 rebounds, 6 assists & 5 steals, Quan had 22 pts & 17 rebounds, Noah had 9 rebounds, Tommy had 8 pts, 6 rebounds, 4 assists & 3 steals and Matt had 6 pts.  Everybody scored in our win over N.C. Runnin' Rebels (57-24).  Tommy had 18 pts, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 steals and a block, Quan had 14 pts & 13 rebounds, Matt had 8 pts and Jake had 5 pts.  Our final pool play win was against Hoop Guru-Walcher (56-25).  Tommy was on fire and finished with 21 pts, 6 rebounds, 3 assists & 8 steals, Quan had 18 pts & 8 rebounds, Brad had 5 pts & 5 assists, Jake had 5 pts and Noah had 9 rebounds. We beat Air Attack-Conley (60-33) in the quarterfinals.  Quan had 20 pts & 10 rebounds, Noah had 9 pts & 9 rebounds and Tommy had 9 pts, 7 assists & 6 steals. We then beat EBA Hoops (57-56) in a semifinal thriller!  It was a true team win as everybody scored.  Quan was a beast with 20 pts & 26 rebounds!!! Brad had 11 pts, 7 rebounds & 6 assists and Noah had 8 pts & 6 rebounds.  We seemed to run out of gas in the championship game as we lost to a good Akron Bobcats (26-44) in the championship game.  Tommy had 8 pts & 7 rebounds, Quan had 6 pts & 17 rebounds and Brad had 5 pts & 4 steals.  We brought home the runner up hardware in just our second tournament of the year.      

Triway Spring Shootout 

3/23/14.  We started off the season pretty well as we won our pool, advanced to the playoffs and finished 3-2.  We won our first game (39-34) against a tough Hardwork-Merhar.  Brad had 9 points & 3 steals, Quan had 8 pts & 8 rebounds, and Noah had 7 points, 12 rebounds & 3 blocks.  We then beat a pretty good Cobras team (33-20). We had an assist on EVERY basket made!  Brad had 9 pts, Quan had 9 pts & 8 rebounds, Tommy had 5 pts, 3 steals & 5 assists and Russell had 6 pts & 3 steals.  We beat Air Attack-Rick (38-26) in our third game. Tommy had 9 pts & 3 steals, Quan had 7 pts & 3 blocks and Russell had 4 pts & 6 steals.  We lost our last game of pool play to EBA Hoops (30-39) in a very sloppy game.  Tommy had 10 pts, 3 steals & 3 assists, Quan had 7 pts & 15 rebounds and Amil had 6 pts, 4 rebounds & 2 blocks.  We then lost to a very good Hardwork-Cassinger team (30-33) in the playoffs.  Brad had a nice all-around game with 7 pts, 2 steals, 3 assists & 3 rebounds, Amil had 4 pts & 3 blocks, Russell had 7 pts and Noah had 5 pts & 9 rebounds.  Overall, it was a nice start to the season.
