Eek!  A little late for the recap....but here it goes.

First and foremost, I would like to remind you of the week 2 recap which was around building the ramps for our former player and family.  It was written very carefully with anonymity toward both those impacted and the volunteers.  Turns out that I didn't need to be quite so careful and the family that was in need were happy to be named and have, in fact, sent a letter to the league.

Larry and Brenda Apps have been an integral part of our community both from a spirit of volunteerism and having jobs that face the public.  Here is the letter from Larry in its entirety.

As cancer reared its ugly head once again, I found myself, upon returning home from hospital, unable to be mobile without wheelchair ramps.  As  this was realized and our family started a frantic search for a contractor to build the ramps immediately,  our hopes were raised unexpectedly and never would I have guessed what most wonderful thing was soon to be gifted to me.

On May 12th we were blessed with the generosity of our small town 'Oldtimers Ball League' who spearheaded a project and put a plan into place to build two incredible ramps, built at our home, by the most amazing crew!!  As I left for an appt that day, I returned only a few hours later to the first ramp already in place to make ease of accessibility to the house.......................I was totally speechless!!!

I was extremely humbled by the news, that in just a few days, word had spread and so many beautiful people had given so generously to raise funds and design these ramps that have afforded me mobility and access to being outdoors.

Brenda and I are forever grateful to all of you and overwhelmed by your generosity and kindness.  I wish I could personally thank each and everyone of you, and shout out to our little town how wonderful you all are, even those of you who wish to remain anonymous!!

You are all such an inspiration and please be extra proud of what you have done.......................and for all that you have given me and helped in my fight. Hoping I will be able to pay it forward in some small way,

Thank you so much,

Once an 'Oldtimer', always an 'Oldtimer'!!

sincerely,

Larry Apps

Having played a very small role in this, I know that there is virtually no one in the league who goes without thanks for funds, time, effort, craftmanship and prayers.

The week that was in baseball.

The Draft Kings remain alone in 1st place, but they are getting pushed hard by the Dusty Cleats all of a sudden.

The Dusty Cleats????

Yep.  The same Dusty Cleats that topped the preseason polls as the most likely to finish in the top 6.  They had more than double the votes of the Tap Masters, Rusty Rebels and Dodge City Rounders who all finished tied for second in the voting.

So how did those Cleats respond to being favourites?  The opened the season losing their first 3 games by a combined score of 73-42.  Ouch.

But have they ever bounced back!  They haven't lost since May 11th, going 7-0 with a combined score of 136-86.  They've gone from losing games by 24-14 on average; to winning games by an average score of 19-12.  What a turn around!

Rounding up the week, your teams that went 2-0 are:  Draft Kings and Dusty Cleats

The 1-0 teams: Gruesome Devils, Hurtin' Units, Hot Tub Woody's

The 1-1 teams: Beer Bros., Tap Masters

The 0-1 teams: Grisslies, Inglorious Batsters, Sliders, Dodge City Rounders

The 0-2 teams: Sons of Pitches

And Teams with ties....

0-0-1:  Rusty Rebels

0-1-1:  Dog Catchers

Housekeeping....

By now you should have confirmed with your captain if you're available to play in the Help The Kids Play Tournament.  If you haven't, please let them know ASAP.

Captains, get your list to Tim Schrank by end of day Thursday.

Beer Cup..........

This is the 3rd season of the Beer Cup.  In the previous two years, by some crazy fluke, the Dusty Cleats NEVER played a single Beer Cup game.  Well, they're making up for lost time, aren't they?  They defended twice last week by downing the Tap Masters & Sons Of Pitches.

Up next on the Champs' docket are the Gruesome Devils on Tuesday.

Beer Cup Games Defended.
