Boys losing stinks there is just no way around that BUT as your coach I will say this. I was extremely happy with the effort today and the unusually fast start. The first 10-15 minutes they didn't even cross midfield. I do not offer excuses, the score was the score but to me this was also a winnable game. They are a very good team but we scored one goal on ourselves, the Ref awarded a goal to them while standing at midfield, which Will assures me did not cross the goal line. Funny thing about that is before the game started the Ref instructed Will that if the ball goes over the end line to please put his hand up but keep playing until the whistle blows because he would have a hard time seeing the end line. In my opinion there is no possible way he could have seen if that ball was in or not but that is part of the game. All that being said we played very well but we really can not blame anyone but ourselves for NOT finishing the opportunities we created. I am not picking on anyone it is just the facts. Nolan made several great moves to draw pretty much the whole defense in including the keeper and at the perfect time flicked the ball with the outside of his foot to Tommy who just needed to redirect the ball while on the 6 yard line, instead basically square passed it across the mouth of the goal. Nkosi had a Direct Free kick from scoring range for him only to kick the ball from the right side of the field, hooking it so bad it didn't even go over the end line. It went over the opposite sideline for a throw-in. Nasratullah had 2 absolutely golden opportunities after being feed perfect through balls by Anthony Fiorella ( Anthony it couldn't have been done any better ). Nas, first time tried scoring low short side sending it wide instead going far post. The second time with the keeper charging out and sliding Nas drilled it into him. As I told Nas, that ball needed to be chipped over the keeper or pushed wide of the sliding keeper then passed into the open net. Unlucky but needs to be fixed. 1 goal off a set play is not good enough against the teams we always face. Jonathan, OUTSTANDING shot !! Jonathan the team thanks you for filling in for Marmo who was suffering from bad foot pain. I love having Jonathan up front where he is a force but when presented with the situation I knew he was the man for the job. Overall I am not totally disappointed, the effort was there and in reality only 2 players did not play their best, one just didn't and the other played like he always does and it is a serious concern at this point. All in all, we just played arguably the best BU11 team on Long Island and honestly I didn't leave the field thinking we couldn't play with these guys or didn't belong on the same field with them, quite the contrary. I may be nuts but I honestly think if we get our finishing problems worked out we could probably take them one day.

Boys, I am VERY proud of the way you ran the drill last night ESPECIALLY the Nasratullah, Jonathan, Nicolas & Fiorella group. You 4 could have gotten 10 passes without the defense touching the ball the way it looked last night. AWESOME STUFF !! Great effort by ALL !! See you on saturday !

Boys I want you all to know that I liked what I saw this week in our 2 practices ! Each night we had 14 of you attend practice. As you know, tuesday night presented a choice for a lot of you to make and that was between either attending practice OR going to "Sports" night. I was very dis-appointed in one players decision to not attend practice and spoke to him last night about the consequences of that decision. However I was very proud of the boys that showed the dedication to the sport and their team by attending practice.(Last night there was a sickness that could not be controlled and that is a legit reason for missing a practice, I hope you feel better My Man). I have no way of knowing if we are going to get the game in on saturday but parents, plan as if we are. I will keep everyone informed as always should anything change. Everyone, please do NOT call my cell phone to ask if anything that is scheduled is still ON. I always get in touch with everyone either via email or phone if anything ever changes. You may have never thought of this but as the coach of 2 teams with 30 players imagine if even half of them called each time.( and usually do ) Thanks !!

Where to begin ? Saturday, the conditions were less then ideal for the game of soccer but that went for both teams. First game as we all know was a 2-0 defeat which does not upset or bother me as your Coach. I spoke to Will about both goals and as I stated I feel both were preventable. The ball bouncing straight up and down on the 6 yard line ABSOLUTELY needs to be secured by the keeper. As Coach Rick always says, no one is as tall as or can leap higher then the keeper with his arms extended all the way up. As for the second goal against, Will and I spoke about this. I always want my keepers ready to come out on breakaways however if a defender is engaged with the attacker as in this case with Nkosi being stride for stride with him, I prefer the keeper set up near the goal line with the proper positioning because most of the time it will either be a weak shot, off balance shot or no shot at all. The angle that was taken lead to Will being to far outside the post and the attacker was able to put the ball behind Will's inside shoulder and made for a pretty easy score. I feel with time and familiarity between Will and the defense in front of him this should not be a problem down the road. On the brighter side I feel Will made several several fantastic saves that others may not have gotten to so that was awesome to see. As far as our team play, as I stated to many. I felt when we put the ball down on the ground and not up in the air, we moved the ball extremely well. Problem is, we as a team resorted to playing the other teams style of play which was long ball, that style does NOT work for the Lawn Dawgs, it just doesn't. Overall I thought it was not a bad game though. Second game against Manhattan Kickers I thought you boys play absolutely OUTSTANDING in the last 15 - 20 minutes of the game BUT unfortunately the game was 60 minutes long, which means for at least 40 minutes we played pretty mediocre ball. I am not sure who passed the ball back to assist Tommy on an excellent goal but that was smart, unselfish soccer that resulted in a perfectly placed ball by Tommy to help the team. Our only other goal came from where else, the "D"-fense. Travis made an absolute perfect shot for the conditions. Driving the ball into an extremely hard wind and having it fall in just under the crossbar. The difference in this game many will think was a handball call that should have never been called to begin with, inside the box for a penalty kick that was successful but that would just be an excuse and winners don't make excuses. No, in reality the difference to me as the Coach was 2 things, we only played hard for those last 15-20 minutes while the other group played a whole game and the fact that they showed they wanted the win more then we did. They were a very good, very fast and very talented group and they won 3-2, I would like to say we COULD HAVE won this game but like they say, IF you "Could have" won then you SHOULD HAVE won and bottom line we didn't and that is on us as a team. Day 1 player of the day was no doubt, Tommy Horne. Outstanding EFFORT, communication and play from Tommy which is the great news, the bad news for Tommy is, I now know he can do that and I will be expecting him to do that whenever he is out there. Day 2 I do not even feel like writing about. The second half of this game was just awful. I had players that looked completely lost out there especially the guys that played the halfback positions with the EXCEPTION of Joe, Joe at least marked his man and battled his butt off, banging bodies, fighting for any ball near him, never allowing his guy to tee up a shot. Joe you played outstanding today and I am proud of you. I am not going to run down the list of disappointing events that took place in this one but you can be sure that you will ALL be hearing about it this week in practice. Bright note was Joe, the way Ryan crashed in and scrapped out a goal for his team, and the perfect shot Travis took and converted. I want ALL THE "OFFENSIVE PLAYERS " to think about this. We, as a team scored 4 goals in 3 games this weekend, 1 from Ryan, 1 from one of our Keepers and 2 from our DEFENSEMAN Travis. I do not believe that I would even have to tell all of you that this lack of offense will NOT, I REPEAT, NOT get it done this year so you ALL better ask yourselves if your doing everything you can to help your team win games ? If we play NEXT Saturday like we did today, you are all going to get embarrassed by Massapequa so it is up to ALL of you boys to keep that from happening. I believe in you guys and this team, BUT unfortunately belief alone doesn't get results. You guys have to, absolutely have to want it more. As I tell you, I can not play the game for you, that is your job and you all need to do your job better. See you all Tuesday Night at Birchwood.

I just want to compliment ALL of the boys ( and their parents ) for the commitment they displayed by showing up to practice last night. It was very nice to see. Even though it was very very cold I do feel it was one of our best team practices ever. The effort you all gave last night was excellent. Keep it up boys !!

Well Lawn Dawgs I would have to say that overall we played ok today, not terrible but definitely not our best either. I believe we showed some rust in the 9v9 format with our loss of the midfield area, the fact that our wings kept squeezing the field to the middle and making it easy for the other teams to defend and of course our SEVERE problem of NO COMMUNICATION still exists. We played 4 games ( 2 against U12 Teams )and allowed only 4 goals against, well to me that is very acceptable defense. But we only scored 1 goal and that is not very good. As I told you boys we did not shoot enough, when we did shoot the vast majority of those times the ball should have been crossed or passed back and when we should have shot we either passed the ball or made 1 or 2 too many touches allowing the defense to stop the opportunity. The whole reason we did this tournament and also why we are doing the Dix Hills Tournament is so we can have a bunch of games under our belts at 9v9 before our first league game/Waldbaums game ( League being much much more important to our team ). I want to give a huge pat on the back to Nolan, Joe & Sean. These 3 absolutely played their hearts out and gave it 200% EFFORT today. If we could ever get all you guys to give 100% all at the same time then we would have something pretty darn impressive. Lets keep working hard and put in the effort and good things will happen.

If you ever wondered about where my idea for our team name came from, you may just want to read the story under the Main Menu titled " ORIGIN OF OUR TEAM NAME " at the left at the bottom. Lots of folks have asked in the past and have gotten the condensed version of the tale due to time but the whole story can now be yours...lol

I also had a lot of fun at your house with Anthony F. and your other friends. Thanks ! The rest of you Dawgs should try to do this next time it was a lot of fun !!

What an exciting day of soccer !! Too the boys who represented the Lawn Dawgs name in the Stony Brook Tournament I say BRAVO !!!! You guys really played great and did your fellow teammates proud. We played 6 regular games going 4-1-1 which placed us 2nd for the Semi-Finals where we had to face the SB Knights Red team that had handed us our only loss earlier while the other Semi-Final match had 1st seed Kosmos from Brooklyn/Queens area play the other SB Knights squad. We won our game 2-1 during which Nasratullah scored an unbelievable header directly off of Jonathan's kick in. I do not believe I have ever jump that high in my life it was that pretty. We faced SB again in the Final as they won their semi-final game on PK's. The first goal we scored was a 4 player one-touch clinic. Travis on right D, square pass to Fiorella Left D, one-touch to Jonathan on L/W one-touch square pass across the box where it found Nas streaking in for a one-touch finish. Bing,bing,bing.....BOOM. Again, it was pretty. We won the final 4-0 considering the games were 13 minutes long that is pretty darn impressive against the quality of teams we were up against. Overall we had 16 GF and 5 GA in 8 games with 5 shutouts. Jonathan was the Tournament MVP which I was told was a No-Brainer and he certainly deserved it but all 7 of you guys played outstanding ball in this one. Fiorella gets much credit for his versatility especially on left defense. Tommy had a shut-out and played well after the first game in the field. Nas took 2 games off but the 6 others he was brilliant. Sean, again great energy and congrats on the goal you scored. Travis was the iron man for his defensive play. Last but not least, welcome to the Lawn Dawgs Will ! Not bad, Will's 1st tournament with the team and he takes home some 1st place hardware. Will you played outstanding with 4 shut-outs.

I wanted to take a minute to compliment all the Lawn Dawgs on the way they performed the agility section of practice last night. Even though I utilized the entire gym opposed to the half of a gym we usually set this up on. To my surprise when I reviewed the times, put them in finishing order from fastest to slowest, I then compared them to the previous week's times. The surprising part was the times were all collectively faster. It is early yet but I am thinking all of your foot speed just might be improving. Keep up the hard work and keep pushing yourselves to be your best !! Great work boys !!

To the boys that played last night, I want you all to know even though we took a little bit of a thumping in this one, I am still extremely proud of you for your EFFORTS !! This was a true U12 team, that when I break the game down. To me, it really comes down to their anticipation in going to the ball being just quicker then ours. They were just a touch quicker to the ball BUT.......... You boys fought them for 50 minutes and with 2 crossbars, a post and an unlucky finish on almost an open netter, you boys were in this one. The other coach complimented you all on your fight ! When I get a chance I will do a write up in the game results. Let me just say to my son Joe, your heart and absolute TOUGHNESS never stops impressing me, that rocket blast that you took to the head last night from point blank range, that would have sent a lot of other keepers running to their mommies but not you kid. You took it, shook it off and asked to stay in the game. For that I am always proudest of you !!!!
