Good scrimmage last night boys. The first 15 minutes or so you guys were doing exactly what I said not to do before the game, you were in far too much of a rush to go forward but then you started moving the ball A lot better. In the second half you did it even better because the guys who were not picking their heads up earlier and looking to play the ball to feet, started doing so which made for more opportunities and better ball possession. Jonathan finally scored a goal again ( see what happens when you actually shoot the ball my friend...lol ) and Patrick worked his butt off like he used to which resulted in a perfectly timed run and a score. Even better then that though was the pass back to Marmo for the shot opportunity when he had his back to the goal and a defender directly behind him, That's smart play. Nicolas also played very well after he started picking his head up and making passes to his teammates. Overall though the ball possession was better along with the build up of play.

And Congrats to Marmo for being the last man standing in the Penalty Shootout !! On the other end of the spectrum Jonathan's older brother gets the award for the most amazing PK of the night. As I stated when I shook Pele's hand, kicking the ball that far over the crossbar isn't an easy thing to do...lol

Had to share a story from last night's practice with all of you and the quote of the season ( So far ). At the start of practice I said to the boys " Guys tonight Coach Joe is going to do something we don't usually do " with that one voice speaks up and says, " What, have FUN " to which a laughed and said " Well wise guy, you happened to be right. I think you guys have been playing to tense and that isn't good, when you play like your affraid to make a mistake that is a problem and one that needs to be corrected also " ( that is a very fine line to master ). The players quote was indeed funny but at the same time eye-opening. We can all learn something from this I think.

Hey Ryan, The Lugos wanted to let you know how very much you were thought of not only as a "team player" for the Lawn Dawgs, but a real pleasure to watch. You, without a doubt, will be missed. We wish you all the best playing with the Falcons. Keep up your desire. With your heart, it will take you further than you know.

Ken and I would like to Thank coach Joe for ALL he's done for our son Ryan! This decision was not an easy one-nor was it made by either myself or Ken, but by Ryan! Ryan although he LOVED playing with the Lawn Dawgs just felt he needed and wanted to be able to PLAY. We backed his decision and it was done. With that said-Thank you John & Nancy for all your hard work & dedication with Ryan while he was on the team! It never went unnoticed and we are very grateful to the both of you! Good Luck with the rest of the season and we will miss being part of the Lawn Dawg Family and all of you!!!

I want to take a minute to recognize a player that although I will still see, I will truly truly miss and without a doubt displays a tremendous amount of heart. I wish him all the very best in everything he ever does from the bottom of my heart. Ryan's family has now requested he play with the Falcons and he will now begin doing so. Ryan I want you to know I absolutely love you like you were my own son and you will ALWAYS be " MY Man Ryan " I wish I could put your heart in a lot of the players on this team. Having a heart like your's is something you just can't teach. You are an awesome young man so don't ever let anything change that. I know you are going to help the Falcons very very much.

Congratulations on your decision, Joey. I'm sure it was a tough one. You will be missed. Your aggessiveness and playing "tactics" (much like Zach's) was fun to watch. Keep up the fight...And make sure you make some noise over there on the Falcons!! :)

I wanted to let everyone know that after a lot of discussion between Joe and I, along with a tremendous amount of thought by Joe, my son has decided to join the Falcons for the upcoming 2008 Spring Season. I thought you should all know.

For those of you observant enough, I have posted our "HOME" games for the Spring 2008 season along with our first round opponent for the State Cup Competition ( also a Home game ). Please note that the ONLY game time that is accurate is our first league game on 3/29 ( 9am Soccer Park against Oceanside in which we are listed as the Home team ). Both of these schedules just arrived today at our club registrar's house and the times have to be worked out by him for the other remaining games. The 12:00am you see on this sight is just a default that the site plugs in if it is left blank at the time of entry which of course will be updated by myself when I am provided the actual times. LIJS assigned the time for the 3/29 game.

Well as most of you know I have not been feeling well and I have been very busy the past few days otherwise I would have gotten to this sooner. The games we played this weekend showed me a lot of good things. One we didn't forget how to play outdoors on a big field but more importantly that you really do remember how to put the ball in the net. Truth be told, a lot of the credit has to go to Zachary G. who decided to tryout for our team. Zachary scored our first goal of the day and assisted Nkosi on 2 others. ( One of which could have had a penalty kick awarded when the keeper took out Zachary as he deeked him out ). Some folks have already said that it was EI's 2nd game of the day and that they were tired. Well that may be partially true but the fact that we scored "4" goals to "0" in the first half tells me we win that game no matter what. In case anyone didn't realize, that was the first time ever that we beat EI and we did it in good fashion. True it doesn't mean a whole lot but it is progress for sure especially seeing we were missing 2 huge parts of our team on Sunday. Overall I enjoyed both games and the way you boys played.

Although I know this isn't Lawn Dawg news technically, I have to brag a little. Today Joe's younger brother Shane played in his first ever tournament at Robert Frost with 7 other kids from his developmental group. Even though they lost 4 out of 5 games they played very well. They tied 1 game and all the others were lost by only 1 goal. Shane named the team "The Deer Park Lawn Pups" he came up with that all on his own because as he said " We're littler then the guys on Joey's team so we have to be pups until we're big enough to be Dawgs ". Shane followed in Joe's footsteps and just like his big brother in his very first tournament, Shane was given the individual award for Best Goalie of the tournament. Congrats to my boy Shane if I do say so myself !!!! ( for the record, I am NOT going to make Shane a Keeper. One was enough...lol )

Well everyone I am about off to my big adventure ( First ever flight ). But because there seems to be some confusion about practices. For the record, plan on having practice each Tuesday at 6:30 UNLESS you hear otherwise. Ok so hopefully the plane doesn't fly off course and I end up in a real life version of the TV show "LOST" that is considering Nancy is going....lol...Oh brother perish the thought...lol... I am forever hopeful that I'll see you again !!!

For those amongst you that had called and were still curious, Joe's finger is NOT broken after all. Looking at it, I can honestly say that I am shocked based on the severe swelling and the amount of time it has lasted. Thanks again for all the well wishes.
