I wanted to share, what in my opinion was a great quote that I happened to hear this weekend. The quote was : " There are 3 types of people in this world. Those that MAKE things happen, Those that WAIT for things to happen and Those who say What just Happen " Followed by the statement, " Ya need to figure out which one you are." Something to think about right there !!! :)

Well boy's it is 3:15am or 2:15am depending on how you look at it with the time change but either way I still haven't been able to come up with the words to describe the way I am feeling about tonight's results so I would just like to compliment a few players and leave it at that. Cristian first off I felt played OUTSTANDING in net, this one is no way on you kid !! I felt Jonathan, Travis, Nas, Fiorella, Zachery & Lawrence busted their butts out there tonight and although I wasn't able to give you as much playing time as I'd like or you deserve I must say to my son Joe, I wish, I just wish I could bottle up your heart and effort and pass it along. No matter what the situation, who we are playing or how little playing time he gets, Joe ALWAYS gives the same thing every moment he is on the field and that is every single thing he has and I love you for that kid, you make me proud !!!!!!! I know in my heart those guys aren't 4-1 better then you boys even though that is what the score says, they just finished their chances and we did not. I'll see you all at practice Tuesday night. At this point all we can do is keep on working and putting in the effort. Don't let the passion die inside of you and NEVER EVER give up, I promise you that is something you will never ever regret !!!

I just wanted to let you all know that although some people may not think the Sportsmanship Award is a huge accomplishment, I however want you to all know,( parents and players ) I am personally very proud to know that our team achieved this honor. From the beginning of this whole process ( developmental into Travel ) teaching the boys not only soccer skills but also in some way lessons that will be helpful later on in life has always been important to me along with representing ourselves and where we come from in a respectable manner. Great Job EVERYONE !!!

Practice Players of the week ( due to the fact we have 2 games this weekend ) are Nicolas Ruiz and AJ Walas. Nicolas will be a Captain on Saturday vs Stony Brook and AJ Sunday against East Islip. I would be wrong to mention it so I must say had Joe NOT already been a Captain he would have, hands down earned that honor this week. Joe your Hustle and Effort was the greatest I have seen out of you to date. Great stuff kid !!

To all dawgs, From my point of view the only goals the devils earned were the last 2 and that was only because of very correctable errors on our part, it's just another lesson you have to learn. The two goals the former member of this team scored were garbage, one was off-sides and the other the ref made a garbage call, if that's what it takes to make him and his father feel good then let him have it. Zac and Christian both should hold their heads up because it was clearly unintentional. Jonathan Hurtado was the man holding the devils main offensive weapon to zero goals and giving him some lumps to take home with as well. It was really enjoyable to see Jonathan and Zac banging that kid around. Travis was a real soldier out there going into battle wounded and still making a difference and his partner Nkosi swept up whatever else came through. Anthony Fiorella was all over the mid field making sure the opposing team knew they had a fight on their hands and mounted as much offence as he could. So you guys don't think for a second that the score is any indication that they're a better team than you. Sometimes things don't go your way, sometimes they do. This time it went their way and they made the most of it. When the opportunity comes up when you face them again, make sure you take any chances they give you to score and put them away, remember their goalie can't jump more than 3 inches off the ground. Don't stop fighting until the fight is done. You still have a long season ahead, one game does not make your season so put this one behind you because you get to play again. I really believe if everyone gives everything they have for just that one hour, you can play with and beat any team they put in front of you.

Good stuff yesterday boys ! Lawrence a couple of golden opportunities in which he capitolized on one to start our scoring. Jonathan had a few good opportunities also but their keeper was equal to the task. Our second goal occured on a quick restart DIRECT kick by Nkosi after Joe was drilled in the back driving him to the ground where he received a kick in the head. With the keeper off her line Nkosi spotted the ball and shot it up over her head and just under the crossbar to tie the game up at 2. The 3rd and final goal was pretty. Nasratullah won the ball at the edge of the attacking 3rd, turned inside and saw nothing but space between himself and the sweeper. Nasratullah, with a little instruction dribbled up drawing the defender in and at the precise moment flicked a pass with the outside of his right foot to a perfectly posiotned Anthony Marmo. Anthony had inside position on the left defense-person maintaining an on-sides position. As Nas passed the ball the keeper started off her line but Anthony for the first time in a long time didn't flinch and refused to be denied resulting in him beating the keeper by striking the ball past her and into the back of the net. We have to seriously become much better on our FIRST-TOUCH of the ball. We are either not controlling it at all or we are traping yards away from ourselves and most of the time to the other team. We MUST improve on this. Overall the game was played well. I hope Steven Dorney and Tyler Doogan enjoyed playing with us in this one and we thank them for coming down.

Well team I regretfully inform you that the team took a serious hit this weekend. Travis, while riding a bike on sunday, fell and as it turns out broke a bone in his left wrist. I wish Travis a speedy recovery and can only hope his team-mates all raise the level of their own game to TRY and make up for the loss of Travis. Get Well Soon #20...

As I have told the boys, this year there are 2 team Captains which are Anthony Fiorella & Joe McGarty with an additional Captain joining them based on " The practice player of the week ". Now so you parents know, The practice player of the week could be the same player all season long and could also be a different player each week ( which is what I hope for ) but it will be completely based on the practices leading up to the game and those practices only !! The player that PAYS ATTENTION, gives it their all and impresses me will receive the other Captains band for that week's game. I will post that players name each Friday morning prior to game day. This week's Practice Player of the Week is Christian Monterrosa.
