The first round Playoffs happened last Friday was like an ordinary elimination games if not for the cardiac game between pre-game overwhelming and oddmakers favorite La Salle Green Archers and the Dark Horse Letran Knights. The odds during that time was +450 for La Salle while -375 for Letran so I put my $150 bet for the Green archers but betted $100 for Knights. I predicted La Salle to win but ended up winning more money with Letran :-)...Letran was able to successfully executed their game plan by limiting the damage to be done by La Salle's twin tower. As it turned out, Bubot was not a factor on that game and Andrew cannot throw the monkey off his back. The guards of La Salle were also non-factor specially their outside shootings. In contrast, Letran made a methodical moves by simply taking away the inside game of their counterpart. Their ball movement was the key by not forcing their shots. Edward once again proved to be their go to guy but their team defense was the main reason why they are a win away from facing the Maroons. Early in the season, Letran was supposed to be a title contending team with their solid lineup but due to absences of their players, they were force to play catch up. Now that their cofidence is sky high, expect their semifinal game to be more intense (wag lang ibebenta ni Howard ang laro :-))... As expected, the final game last Friday was won by the San Beda Red Lions. Joey V have a breakout game giving his older brother Joy's team a beating. The Ckret Black Mamba is no match with this emerging superstar. UST has nothing to be ashamed of considering their depleted lineup, they can still managed to win games and besides, no one gave them a chance to go this far. In short, their loss is not as devastated / himiliating / kahindikhindik / karumaldumal compared to what the Green Archers got on their beatings to Letran... Letran vs. San Beda... This game is becoming more interesting as both came from impressive wins on a contrasting style. San Beda plays a slightly up tempo type of game while Letran likes the slow pace. The Red Lions need to capitalize on their guard matchup having an advantage over the guards of Letran. Joey V can penetrate or shoot outside while giving his teamates room to operate inside. Letran can implement a help defense on whoever defending Joey. If they go for this, they should be very quick in defending the wings coz San Beda has several outside threats. On the other hand, Letran should continue their good boxing out in terms of rebounding the ball. Their perimeter defense shoule work doubly hard to force the Red Lions on their shots. Unless somebody from Letran becomes a threat outside, San Beda's defense can concentrate mostly inside by just intercepting the Knight's pick and roll play. In terms of experience, Letran has an advantage having more than 10 championship rings on their line up but San Beda is much hungrier so they are are ready to roar. A win by any team will just accomplish 50% of their goal coz another herculean task is in waiting. A date with UP Maroon is more than 50% better compare to those who are left behind. Where's the latest update for the upcoming Ligaleague Season IX Playoffs??? Maybe somebody from either Ateneo or La Salle is busy with their preparation for their respective playoff matchup that they forgot to clean up this site from cobwebs/spiderwebs. I don't even know what to say if somebody is asking where to get group tickets for the playoffs so they can bring their "pala" to cheer up the games! Anyways, special thanks to Steve K for the prime up analysis and also for reminding me that it is already the start of the Playoffs. I apologize for those waiting for my analysis during regular season. Due to budget restrictions which enough for me to buy "Kapeng barako na walang asukal", I am only paid by the commissioner to write during do-or-die games. Let's start the 1st round! WIN OR GO HOME!!! Ateneo vs. UP... Ateneo needs to turn back the hands of time to have a shot at UP. Unconfirmed reports from different sources stated that their big man Mon will be enjoying his vacation in the Phils while his team is fighting with their butts out. While UP sniper Bogart is already in the Phils using his championship bonus he got for his 1st ever basketball trophy, the blue eagles will most likely feel the effect of this development. JP "the 30 point man" needs to bring back his old touch to make his team more competitive. Doc Beng and Joel D should always have their Salonpas ready during timeouts (Advantage: Ateneo if only 3 of the UP players are playing... Elims Matchup: 2-0 in favor of UP)... La Salle vs. Letran... This match became more intriguing with the latter's win against the Archers during their last game. Both teams don't have their respective big guys which technically an equal match up. However, La Salle has proven that they are bleeding for a win when their Big Brother Bubot is not around. It is understandable because he is the focal point of their offense where a double/triple team on him will open the 4 perimeter shooters on his team. On the other hand, Letran use to play and win without their Point-Center-Forward-Cheer-Section Captain Edwin (thanks Steve K for the nice description). While Ninon is their leading scorer, Edward their spritual leader, Edwin their cheer leader, the most valuable piece for this team is the ever present, ever reliable friendly neighborhood AutoFix guy, the "Iron Man" Howard Wong (free change oil, free overhaul and free 5 yr maintenance next time...promise ha)!!! His defense and casual offense is very important in limiting the damage the Twin Towers of La Salle will create. Vince will always be Vince, a deadly shooter in which Edward or Yong need to stop. Ninon and Andrew is also an interesting matchup. The guard spots are where La Salle has advantage having inside and outside threat. La Salle might gonna win this game unless they self destruct at the end, Letran remains to be the dark horse. (Advantage: La Salle, Elims Matchup: Tied at 1-1)... San Beda vs. UST... With all the injuries and match up problems that this team encountered during elimination, UST still won as many games as they can. They are clearly the overachieving underdogs. Though they were beaten in terms of height and length, they compensate their weakness by maximizing their speed and hussle plays. They are the complete antidote for San Beda having won all their games against this team during elims. The Red Lions seems to be a complete team with the return of Jay and the steady play of Joey, but their inconsistent plays towards the end made them vulnerable. Ferdie "takbong mayaman pag nakakashoot" is the heart and soul of this team. He needs to go straight to the hoop because no one can match up with his height and quickness unless Alex "The Niño" Bayot is happily waiting for him under the basket waiting for a "Gulang Move". San Beda need to think when going for a rebound especially if Alex is around (ask Napi and he will happy to answer your question :-)). There is also a sibling rivalry on this match with both Joey and big bro Joy trying to outwit each other. The Red Lions is the suki of Growling Tigers, to break this spell, they need to stop the C-kret Black Mamba once and for all to have a shot at the title. Though both 2 games went to UST, I may say that San Beda still the favorite to win this match up. (Advantage: San Beda, Elims Matchup: 2-0 in favor of UST)...visit www.youjizz.com for my blogs and other important updates. Signing out, Torero...

A very brief…..Playoff prediction update: Lasalle over Letran: Bubut and Andrew? On the same team? Come on now! The Letranites are not to be outdone by having the 3-headed monster of runners and slashers in NWE (Ninon-Wong-Edward). It remains to be seen if and when Point-Center-Forward-Cheer-Section Captain, Ed Hoskins will suit up for this game. This should be entertaining. UP over Ateneo: Team UP (aka “Team Sunshine” cause everyone’s happy to be there) barely beat Ateneo the last time the two of these teams met. The young legs of Joel D. and Dr. Beng (combined age of ?) match up well with the guard tandem of UP. It’s also rumored that scoring machine, JP (aka “don’t call me Jerry or John Lloyd”) Cruz is primed and ready to bring down the defending champs. San Beda vs. the Dominican powerhouse UST The grudge match of the evening with dueling brothers Jesus and Joel Villanueve going mano y mano. These teams are a study in contrast (size vs. speed outside vs inside, mustard vs ketchup). If San Beda can just be deliberate and methodical (aka feed the bigs inside the paint) and don’t try to run with the gazelles of UST (Ephraim, Bien and Alex—yes I know. I did say Alex and Bien), San Beda should win this game. But I see Team Yellow submarining the underachieving San Beda team. Final 3 UP (bye) Lasalle vs. UST Championship (barring any unforeseen series of unfortunate events) UP vs. Lasalle
