This is Torero in the House once more... LigaLeague Season VIII is over but the euphoria still not sinking in. The Championship match between San Beda Red Lions and UP Maroons is for the ages and considered a classic in the history of this league. The final score didn't reflect how close, heated but competitive the game was. Kudos to both teams who gave all their strength, determination and will to outlast each other. Red Lions performed what a defending champions need to do but Destiny outweigh Dynasty this time around. Let me give you my post-championship recap of last nights championship... Everybody expected a close battle between Red and Maroon, but no one anticipated how the game will be great last night. It was a combination of Action, Drama and Love story put together to create an unforgetable movie. Let start with the Action... Majority of the first half was controlled by San Beda. They were in for some type of drugs that raised their high level of play outwitting their opponents inside and out. UP's zone defense was no match to their inside passing and Edwin's offensive rebounding and putback. Add to UP's woes, their big man, Chef Arnel was already in foul trouble after just less than 4 minutes in the game forcing himself to be out for couple of minutes. San Beda capitalized this opportunity by implying a man-to-man defense which shocked UP and made their offense more tentative. All is going to Red Lions way after imposing a 14-point lead with less than 8 minutes to go. At this point, many thought that they just wasted their money in buying a ticket for this kind of game. Some threatened to leave the gym early. But a needed timeout by UP changes everything. Realizing that a zone defense was no match to San Beda's inpired plays, they imposed a combination of 2-3 defense and stepped up offense to limit the damage that their opponent has done. A buzzer beater by John L made them trailing by only four by halftime. The second half was where the Action and Drama began. The first ten minutes was a see-saw ballgame. No one wants to surrender their pride. This is where fans were up to their feet. Hussle plays, teamwork, great offensive game were the key ingredients that made the game more fun to watch. Realizing that this will be the last chance for redemption, UP imposed a sticky defense on the last 10 minutes of play which made San Beda grasping for air. The Red Lions don't know what hit them. They became tentative, they don't know who will gonna shot the ball. Sometimes, they were open for shots but opted to pass instead. On the other hand, UP started their run and gun game led by Eddie and John. Like a true warrior, Chef Arnel started to imposed his presence by bulldozing his way to the basket. Couple of plays were solely for him just to put the big guys of San Beda into foul trouble. True enough, the Maroons feasted on the foul line. A deep three by John put the Maroons in the driver seat for the first time. This was the momentum they were waiting for. A couple of exchanges happened after that but the Chef proved to be no match to the opposition. Imposing his will into the basket causing the Bedan's number of foul over the limit. This time, you know that the Title is just a hairline away from the Maroons until a freak accident involving the Iron Chef causing him an injury to his arm. Good thing, they still continue their searing defense and unpredictable offense after that. Love Story... With his passion and love for the hardware, a piece that eluded him for many years now, starting from Toyota up to the La Salle days, the "Cinderalla Man" Bogart Suarez can now claim his First Trophy by connecting an Icing-On-The-Cake three-point shot that put a dagger into the hearts of the defending champions. That catapulted his journey from a perennial Run-away bride to a League Champion. No one can deny that this was the time he is eagerly waiting for, and Bro gave him this unforgettable gift he will relish for the rest of his life. After the final buzzer, both teams are winner by giving the fans what they deserve, a classic and memorable ballgame. As what the contestant from a TV noon time show cheers, UP... UP... Hoooooorayyyy!!! Until then... Signing out, Torero

This is Torero in the house again!!! This is it!!! This is all we have been waiting for! After 3 months, 11 Friday games, 2 Wednesday games and several idle games in between, we all boil down to the mother of all battles. The war between UAAP and NCAA... RED vs. Maroon ... Will the Red Lions gate crash the Oblation run in UP or the Maroons strike back toward Mendiola on the way to Malacanang Palace??? These are the questions that will be settle once these two teams collide for all the marbles! My crystal ball didn't fail me yet so I'm still pretty confident that this time, my prediction will still be on the right track. Let the analysis begins... Below are my key points into this ball game. Conditioning... San Beda Red Lions will have an advantage in terms of conditioning. Having played the last time by blowing out the uninspired, undetermine, and "walang kagana gana at kabuhay buhay na ATENEO" team (some observers believed that there was a game fixing happened involving their Superstars. Is this true, Boy Abundat???). San Beda played like a possessed demons muscling their way out of the Blue Eagles. Hayward Sports Betting public even predicted that the game will be closed but they were disappointed. Their hustling towards the ball proved to be the key in their decisive win. Many believed that they were in a sort of Steriods with the way they played (commissioner needs to look for this one if the tsismis is true). Nevertheless, you cannot take for granted what the Red Lions achieved in that game. In contrast, UP might be rusting right now. Their momentum has been taken out after 3 weeks of inactivity. But who knows, this might be a challenge for them to prove who's the boss... Defense... These two teams are the most effective in terms of applying a stop to their opponents, with UP slightly ahead of their counterpart. UP's searing defense make them deadly when going for a transition offense. After a successful defensive stops at the other side of the court, they seems almost unstoppable when going towards to their court. With their three big men manning the defense, oppositions are having second thoughts on whether to penetrate or opt for a low percentage shot. On the other hand, the big guard and small forwards of San Beda lead by Edward and Yong are carrying them in this department. Shooting... Both teams have their own counterpart, each having a designated shooters. This will also be a battle of Snipers. Vince vs. Bogart... Merrick against John. Whoever wakes up on the right side of the bed this Friday will have his name filled with scores! This might be even for both... Inspiration... Without a doubt, both teams are eager to bag the crown. But the question is "Who is more starving???". Before their championship run last season, most of the San Beda players already have at least 1 or two rings. Some of them might not know the taste of a championship champagne, but they almost have a championship experience. And if you combine the number of trophies that these players have and line it up in parallel, it will almost occupy the entire lenght of the court. Though a win will self-detruct them as a team, their legacy will always be remembered in the annals of this league. On the other hand, only few players from UP have trophies or I may say "bubble heads". This means, it's been a light years when they last tasted the champagne. Few insiders told me that some of the UP players will be again relegated to the Reserve role once they loss this game so expect that they will come out of their closets, ngek... lol.. To make my case that UP is more hungrier, one player from this team always fall short of the crown since time immemorial. Will this be his year??? Will this be the start of a successive trophies for him??? No one denies the fact that this UP player will do anything humanely possible to get that elusive crown! I hope this is it Bogart! With all the the keypoints I mentioned, the red color will be covered slightly by a black color to create an impression of MAROON. Signing out, Torero

This is Torero in the house again! My crystal ball was perfect when I made my predictions during quarterfinals. I hope this will be the same case on my Semifinal analysis. Withour further palabok and spaghetti, below is my take between San Beda and Ateneo... As I've said previously, Ateneo was the hottest team in the league until they succumbed to the pangs of Red Lions in the last game of the elimination. After an unispiring first half of the season, they racked up successive wins on the second half and now they are in the semifinals after disposing the underachiver UST. Impressive wins against league leading UP validated their point as being the dark horse of the tournament. But these are what their legion of fans expected from them in the first place. They are blessed with Height and/or length (Andrew, Mon and Ferdie - sino kaya pinaka???lol...), Experience (Louie, Napo and Diko - combine age of 119 yrs.) and LOOKS!!!(Mike G "The Kilabot"). That's why when they racked up losses in humilating way, their ticket holders started to doubt their hearts and threathening to boycott all their remaining games. But with a statement game against UP, all has started to change for the better. You can no longer see Ferdie entering in the Arena (both) heads down, instead, a "lakad mayaman" is his signature walk going in the gym to inform his presence. San Beda, in contrast, remains the powerhouse team. Consistent througout the rest of the season. Though their only two loses came at the hands of UP, they are still the favorite to defend their crown. Their losses might be a question mark too since either one or two of their superstars were not around. They are now eager to get back at their tormentor once they past this one. But before accomplishing their goal, they need to work doubly hard if their quarterfinal game against Letran is the gauge of their campaign. They easily won against their quarterfinal opponent during eliminations but gave them the toughest matchup so far. Even if they won, only few expected the game to be that close. Though Edward is the undisputed workhorse of this team, others should step up the defense as well especially on the perimeter area. Two-to-nothing in their elimination matchup, you cannot say that the Red Lions is the heavy favorite. They might in for a rude awakening. Rewind... Last season, San Beda is the runaway leader until they were beaten by the Blue Eagle team in one of their games in the elims. And who would have forget the classic playoff match between these teams. With a twice-to-beat advantage, the Red Lions were humbled by Ateneo in their first playoff game and needed a hell of a miracle on their second game to advance in their quest for glory. Though you cannot directly compare the previous teams, the truth is, this Ateneo team is better and stronger compare to last season. Blue Eagles seems to be the achilles heels of Red Lions. Matchup: Frontcourt - Ateneo will definitely has an advantage with the presence of Three Kings. Backcourt - San Beda will win on this matchup with Edward and Nap outwitting their counterpart Perimeter Shooting - Red Lions have the small edge over Blue Eagles Rebounding - Ateneo Fastbreak - San Beda Papogian - TBD With the few keypoints I mentioned above, we expect that the semifinal game between these two teams will be going down the wire. The battle will be height vs. speed. The matchup might be even but the Hayward Sports Betting Community suggests that San Beda will win by a hairline. Until next time... Signing out, Torero
