| Coach Joe April 15, 2009 7:35:40 AM Entry ID: 1605739 | To all the Dawgs who attended practice last night ( 12 of you plus my son Joe ), I just want to let you know I was very pleased with the effort given in the rain and the fact that I heard absolutely no complaints other then by your parents ( which of course I'm used to ). You boys would have absolutely played in those exact conditions had they been present on a game day so there was no reason to not hold practice. I am especially proud of one of our Captains who did what he needed to do to convince his parent to bring him, that showed great leadership and things like that is why you wear the Captains Band. I must also give props to my son because although we all were rained on off and on, Joe was soaked to the bone while doing his Keeper training drills. With all the constant diving on the ground it was unavoidable. Once again, absolutely no complaints even with the chattering teeth. No one could EVER question your toughness kid :). Good work guys. |

| Coach Joe March 30, 2009 11:13:54 PM Entry ID: 1595696 | I just wanted to say Congratulations to my son Joe and let him know ( along with all of you ) how very proud I am of him for being accepted into the National Junior Honor Society. He was able to meet all the criteria, between his grades and all his extra curricular activities, Joe was able to achieve induction. I may be hard on you at times son but it is only in an attempt to push you to be the absolute best you can be. I love you and I am EXTREMELY PROUD of you. I also want to give congrats to some of my other players and they are: Tyler Doogan, Thomas Horne and Michael DeCicco for also making the NJHS. Great job boys, this is truly a great accomplishment you have all reached. |

Yes there are things we can improve on and there always will be BUT there were a lot of things we DID improve on and sadly that too often gets lost when you suffer a defeat. But I'm probably the dumbest guy in the room because it seems everyone knows more then me as to what I should and shouldn't do. Parents may all think whatever you like, I can't control that but I for one was very proud of your sons today and the effort they gave. That was a good game with a bad result but that is sports but hey............what do I know ? |

I want to give a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Joey Fiorella, Anthony's younger brother, for having scored the winning goal on the final PK during a needed PK Shoot-out at his Waldbaum's game today. Joe's goal won the game and got his team to advance to the second round in the Challenge. Way to go my fellow #8 Defenseman. |

Not bad, we went 7-1 on the season, allowing only 7 goals in 8 games, scored 30 goals, accumulated 21pts in the standings to finish in 1st Place and a had a plus 23 goal differential. One more Tournament to go tomorrow and then the REAL games begin next weekend. |
| Coach Joe March 8, 2009 1:20:59 PM Entry ID: 1579110 | Boys I want you to know that I was very disappointed in the way we played during the second half of both games 1 (0-0 tie) and game 2 (2-0 win). Even though we won the 2nd game 2-0 we were out played in the second half. The first half was decent in game one and very good in game 2. I saw some excellent through balls played in by the halfbacks & stopper, hitting the splits in the defense in both games. True the touch on many were too strong but that can be adjusted. I was just happy with the fact that we were recognizing those opportunities because that is a big step forward. Now it is up to our outside halfbacks to anticipate those opportunities earlier so that we can take advantage of them. The passing and ball possession was good also. Today's game was thoroughly exciting to be apart of. It basically came down to the tale of 2 crossbars, their shot ( one of only 2 real shots they had the entire game ) hit the underside of our crossbar and went in and Jonathan's blast that just skimmed the top of their crossbar and went over. Early on they had the better of the play but our defense handled the pressure extremely well. As you could all tell the defense looked a lot different in this game. Based on the scouting report I received their big weapon was #3 who was a big fast kid that pushes defenders off the ball so I made the decision to do what I felt was best for the entire team and went with our big guys in the back. Jonathan on left, who's aggressive play proved that defenders can also be a huge part of a team's attack which was evident by his 2 extremely high quality strikes that just missed. Zach on right, which I must say that I feel Zachary did a tremendous job for the team especially winning the balls in the air with defensive headers. I explained to Zachary why I was going with this lineup and he appeared to understand it while embracing the challenge. Anthony took on the VERY VERY difficult role of "marking defender" who was responsible for marking their main weapon. True he did score but there was no mistake made and sometimes we must just tip our hats to our opponent for their effort. This was one of those situations. In speaking with Coach Craig who has seen this particular opponent several times, he informed me that he has never seen anyone shut him down as well as Anthony did today. Anthony felt responsible after the game for that goal but I assured him that he did nothing wrong and in fact played outstanding in his role today. Our defense along with Cristian , who is in fact a defender ( of the net ) only allowed 1 goal the entire tournament which is something we can all be very proud of !! Player of the Match without ANY DOUBT would have to be Lawrence. L's effort was tremendous both defensively and offensively. ( hope you know Lawrence, I'll be looking for that effort each and every game now. Cat's out of the bag baby...lol ). Nkosi gave us all some excitement up front because of his explosiveness. Unfortunately we were just missing the opportunities but it could prove to be something special in the future. Substitutions were very challenging today based on the different positioning and different alignment (only having 3 midfielders per-say with Anthony as the marking defender ). Once they scored, knowing we needed a victory to advance, I was compelled to leave our fastest players in. As I told you all after the game this was a great soccer game and an even better effort, in my opinion. Once again no one hates losing more them me but it is much easier to handle when I know my boys gave it every possible effort they could and you did that today. I Thank You for that on behalf of your parents and the coaches. Today, this is the team I know you can be, not those other guys that showed up yesterday and Friday night because that isn't you guys. | Coach Joe March 1, 2009 4:12:58 PM Entry ID: 1574477 | Boys although we did not come out on top as far as the scoreboard goes I was actually happy with the ball movement & switching for the most part along with the decision making. Was a little disappointed in our efforts to win balls out of our back especially our goal kicks and our accuracy has to become much better. The thought process is there but we miss our teammates far too often and against better teams that will not cut it. Ball has to be played into feet much much more. Like I said though I was happy with the ball movement. We had 2 golden opportunities to score. 1 was a very good effort /strike which forced the keeper to make an excellent save and they other, well it wasn't very good. Those are the differences between being a decent team and being a real real good team. Nkosi you played absolutely outstanding and Jonathan you were a beast, both fun to watch. Cristian very good stuff except the one you did not jump for, I can't except no effort or the lack of effort shown on that goal. You are better then that and show that 95% of the time. |

Although we do still have one more game to play, with Hauppauge trailing us by 2 points in the standings and having lost their last game today, there is no one that can overtake us in the standings no matter what happens in our final game two weeks from now making us the Southbay Sportsplex Winter League CHAMPIONS !!!!!! Our motivation now is to play for another shutout victory in that final game. |

As we all know I was not present but after doing some investigating it appears this may have been a malicious act after the final buzzer had sounded. Injuries do occur everyday in sports but ones such as this are inexcusable, if intentional. Ethan I hope you heal quickly and I also hope all of you players learned from this. You always need to keep your head on a swivel and protect yourself at all times. You should also all have each others back and stick together because this could have easily been any one of you. |

| Coach Joe February 7, 2009 9:59:32 PM Entry ID: 1558975 | Boys the word is you played a great game today, didn't bunch up, keeping your spacing well, especially on the outside midfield positions staying wide ( proud of you AJ ). We were short a few players some I knew ahead of time some I had no idea about ( don't like that ) and 1 teammate that was suspended due to academic reasons. EVERY player that plays for me should take notice of this because it doesn't matter if you are the best player on the team or not if you can not or will not do two of the most basic things I ask of my players, that being a good son to your parents and doing well in school, I will sit you and you will have to explain to your teammates why you let them down, not me. I am hopeful this will be a non issue moving forward. I hear tell we had some awesome goals scored today. Coach Craig hasn't turned in his homework assignment yet but when he does I will post it in the game results section for everyone. The way I heard it was IF the net wasn't already ripped, it would have been after Jonathan's rocket blast of a shot ( and the hospital called, the EI player that Jonathan hit in the ribs is now in recovery ...lol... Just joking ) Austin got on the board with not 1 but 2 today, AJ had a cross that went off one of their players ( they all count no matter how they get in there...lol ) and I was told by 4 different people that Nas was teaching extra help class today because he absolutely schooled 3 or 4 of the opposing team with his silky moves like only he can before drilling one past their keeper. I'm proud of you guys because I heard great things about your play today. See you all tomorrow, field is clear of snow so we are good to go. |

| Coach Craig January 26, 2009 9:40:36 AM Entry ID: 1549854 | Well I first would like to thank Coach Joe for allowing me to Coach the boys today. I have to say I had a lot of fun. We came out with a show of force when we put a whooping on Stony Brook White 8-0. We then got a little too relaxed and let a good, but not superior team in Hauppauge Brasil beat us 5-2. We then had a very good game in which we tied Stony Brook Red 2-2. We topped League play with a very convincing win against Brentwood Boca 3-1. At the end of League play we finished in the 3 seed. In the 1st round we faced Stony Brook Red again and played them to a tie in regulation. It was on to PK’s where the drama was intense!! Nas buried the 1st, Johnny buried the 2nd, and Nkosi took a chance and went opposite post and completely fooled the Keeper for the 3rd. Stony Brook needed a goal to force an extension BUT Cristian made a fantastic save to seal the victory. In the final we met the 1st seed Hauppauge Brasil team again and played tough until about 5 minutes left when they scored the go ahead and game winner to beat us 2-1. The final was a fun and very hard fought game, NO SHAME from this one. Although I was threatened by Coach Joe to win or else, I believe we had a successful day. I was told by some parents that if Coach Joe were to give me flack, I should remind him of Poughkeepsie (LOL!). So who gets my game ball??? This was a no brainer…Mike “Mad Man” Scacco. I have seen Mike play over the years and this was the best I have witnessed to date. He was smart and aggressive in almost every aspect of his game today. Mike finished with 8 goals, I believe 2 assists, 3 knockouts on Brentwood and Stony Brook, and 1 SWEET Maradona move at full speed. NOW Mike, you need to sustain this. You just set the bar REAL high. I don’t know what Coach Joe calls it, but you earned your K-9’s today in my opinion. You were all heart out their (HIT ROCKY MUSIC)… I also want to point out our other new addition Chris Johnson. It was a rocky beginning, the style of play was very different from where he came from, BUT as each game went on he took my Coaching points and kept applying them to his game. By game 3-4 he really started getting the runs down and played some real TIGHT defense. I was very pleased with his progress and transformation from “NPT Kick and Run” to “Lawn Dawg Style”…Not your fault Chris, your Daddy put you on the wrong team last year. He is wrong quite often.. DOH! And Anthony….well he was just Anthony…Gibraltar! I would like to congratulate all the boys for a great day of Futsal! |

| Coach Joe January 10, 2009 10:02:57 PM Entry ID: 1540633 | Good job as far as getting the win today with me not being able to make it due to my son Shane's Tournament being held at the same time as our game but all turned out well. You guys took care of business and my son Shane won the Best Goalkeeper award for the tournament ( Not that I want another son to be a Keeper mind you....lol ). I obviously am just going on feedback I received but from what I hear Anthony was the player of the game in this one so congrats to him. I heard our scoring came from Chris on a beautiful cross/finish combo with Anthony. Austin received an assist from AJ on his goal and AJ soloed one with a lot of credit going to his speed ( that special top secret training must be paying off ). Nkosi received many compliments for his play also. I have given Coach Craig a homework assignment which would be to write a game summary seeing I wasn't there to do one, so I will post it when he turns it in. I'll see you all tuesday night. |

December 13, 2008 4:30:47 PM Entry ID: 1526811 | As always I will be 100% honest with you guys. As I told all of you at halftime, your play in that first half was absolutely horrendous. We looked like a fast Interleague team. All we did was kick the ball, no passing no ball movement with any consistancy, it was flat out embarrassing. Amazing thing was you still managed to lead 1-0 at halftime even playing that poorly. Once again to your credit you listened to what I had to say at halftime and went out there and did it. You put the ball on the ground, you made passes to feet, you switched fields, you overlapped and when you do all those things like you are supposed to they call that playing soccer which is what we should always be doing. I must say though, Austin is absolutely playing out of his mind good !!!! I can not compliment you enough Austin for the way you have been playing of late and way to finish the cross. Keep it up kid !! Nkosi was completely on fire today, he was doing whatever he wanted out there basically and it was ALL good in my opinion. Zachary Graham, congrats on the 2 finishes because lord knows we need that but even if you take those 2 away, it was the best most involved I have ever seen you play, outstanding job. Savas in the 2nd half was incredible the way he was stepping through things and hitting the outside runners, couldn't have been done any better. My Iron Man Hurtado, way to lock down that left side and make the overlapping runs when the chances presented themselves and that 1 shot was awesome. That's in on a LOT of other keepers. Nas was very good in the middle and at Striker, even managed to clean one up into the back of the net. Even though Emerson didn't finish a couple of opportunities he assisted on at least 2 of our goals so that is a very good day's work. If we could have played the 1st half like the 2nd half who knows what the score would have been. We aren't going to get away with playing half games this coming season in D1 so we better get that stuff out of our system before the start of the season. |

December 6, 2008 9:01:27 PM Entry ID: 1522549 | Guys, once again you had a VERY good showing against an older team and you accomplished it while missing some big pieces of our team. The play out of the back was very very good and solid. Midfield moved the ball nicely ( had to be reminded about switching fields but even before that the movement was still good ) Striker play, which was mainly by Zach G. and Emerson can absolutely be compliment for their EFFORT, without ANY doubt what-so-ever they did work hard in what they did. They and I may have had some friction because of their reluctance to make the angled runs the way myself AND our trainer want and instruct them to do but even they (after being spoken too and to their credit correcting their runs to the way I asked very late in the game ) even they agreed that those style runs created A LOT more quality scoring opportunities for them in a very short period of time. Converting them is another topic that we will never stop trying to work on. I do believe this is falling under the heading of a conflict of styles, things the boys either have been taught in the past or are currently being instructed to do by others. I will say this one more time. We, no you all pay a HIGHLY QUALIFIED Ex-Professional Soccer player to train the boys, one who I happen to be in TOTAL agreement with as far as coaching style, philosophy and the overall approach to the game. I myself have played the game my entire life, have more then my share of coaching certificates/Diplomas, Seminars, I do believe that although I am sure in your hearts you may mean well, your instructions are counter productive, not only to your son but to the TEAM as well. Inturn putting your son in the middle of your own philosophy and that of the Coaching staff. You all need to have faith, patience and be supportive of our concepts and what we are trying to work on because fighting against it is only going to be harmful to your own and more importantly to your son's relationship with the coaches. Believe me, no one, especially me wants that. I want these boys to all get better individually and as a team. Good stuff today boys, that is our 7th scrimmage since the end of the regular season and you are 5-1-1 in those 7. See you all on Tuesday night. |
