Troop 318 has an exciting opportunity to visit the Mainstream Pumping Station on
Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
This exclusive tour will take the troop 300 feet below the surface to explore the underground pump station. With a capacity of over 500 million gallons per day, each of the largest pumps boasts the power of nearly six locomotives - approximately 17,000 horsepower! Located in Hodgkins, the Mainstream Pumping Station is one of three major facilities in the Tunnel and Reservoir Plan (TARP) system. It plays a critical role in capturing combined sewer overflows from a 375-square-mile area, helping to prevent backflows into Lake Michigan.
There is no cost for the tour of the Pump Station. The tour is limited to 30 people (scouts and adults). The sign-up deadline is
July 6, 2025, and it is a hard deadline due to security clearance required.
Afterwards, we can go out for lunch at Ledo's Pizza (optional- will be approximately $15/person)
Don't miss this rare chance to explore a true feat of engineering!
