The Scout Oath's second principle is to "help other people at all times", and soon we will have a chance to put that into action. Mark your calendars for April 18th and May 2nd, when our council and Troop 318 are participating in the national BSA service tradition of "Scouting for Food".
Scouting for Food began as a local project in St. Louis in 1985, and was adopted by BSA nationally in 1988 as a way to help reduce hunger in our communities. Over two consecutive weekends, Scouts will help our neighbors by collecting non-perishable food items to donate to the Orland Township Food Pantry.
The first weekend, Saturday, April 18th, Scouts will distribute door hangers to our assigned area in Tinley Park, and the second, Saturday, May 2nd, we will return to collect any donated food and deliver to the Orland Township Food Pantry. A few adult volunteers and their vehicles will also be needed to help deliver the collected donations.
Scouts will have the opportunity to earn service hours on one or both weekends. Please use the signups below for one or both days.
We will meet at the pavilion at
Pottawattomie Park, 9128 178th St, Tinley Park and fan out in teams to canvas the neighborhood. Please meet at 10:00 a.m. dressed in Class A uniform.
Scouts are also encouraged to bring donations to the April 16th Troop Meeting.
Thanks for your help in feeding our community!
