Crew 318 - 2026 High Adventure - Boundary Waters - Crew Application

Curious about high adventure?

This is a terrific way to experience a high adventure trek.

July 25th to August 1st

The boundary waters between the United States and Canada are teeming with wildlife and have long been the destination for those seeking a premier canoeing experience traveling the routes of the fur trade Voyageurs. After a shakedown of equipment and skills, your group will travel to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness for an exhilarating trek along the US-Canadian border. Moose, black bear, otter, pine martin, and fisher are just a few of the animals that inhabit this area.

We will have at least one, possibly two, 8-person co-ed Crews, including 2-3 adults in each Crew. Please note that the number of adult openings is limited.

To sign up for the Boundary Waters Trek, you will need to fill out this form. Availability is on a first come, first served, and your spot is secured when you turn in a non-refundable $100 deposit per person. Deposits are due by 2/1/26.

Besides the $100 deposit, an additional payment of $300 will be due 3/15/26. There will be a separate transportation cost once the Crew is finalized and it is determined if we can carpool or need to rent a van. The additional cost is estimated to be between $100-$250 per person, so the total cost per person will be between $900- $1050. Fundraising opportunities will be available.

To go to Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan, you must be 14-years-old by July 25, 2026. You do not have to be 14 today. This trek is being organized through Venturing Crew 318, but you do not need to be a member of the Venturing Crew already to sign up for Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan. You will have to join Venturing Crew 318 prior to the Trek, which is free to members of Troop 318.

The itinerary is being finalized, but below is an example of what it will look like:

Saturday: Arrive at camp, check-in, shakedown, and logistics prep

Sunday: Travel to Boundary Waters

Monday - Thursday: Paddles away on Trek

Friday: Return to outfitter and start trip back to Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan via overnight in state park.

Saturday: Return to Makajawan, clean up, and head home.
