KAFC Clinches 3rd place!!!!

With a resounding win, spurred by a 4 goal performance by "Brutal" Brokop, Kildonan went on to win 6-2 over the re-scheduled match against the All Whites.
A makeup game that almost was not to be, where a week before, before being rained out, the All Whites were up 3-0 before the ref called the game.
With only 2 subs Kildonan marched on to confidently win the match with goals by Brokop, Scott and 2 from Warren.
3rd place means Kildonan Athletic's first round opponent is the Assassins.
A skilled younger team, KAFC failed to beat them in two meetings, losing 3-2 and tieing 3-3.

Game is scheduled at the Soccer complex #3 at 5pm on Saturday September 8th.
C'mon and cheer on the boys in yellow.

Lee looks for a teammate in 1st half action

The local derby ended disappointingly for the more popular Kildonan team. In what started out as a evenly matched game, the eventual outcome was determined by one of the worst officials in Winnipeg.
Not sure who KAFC ticked off to have the same ref for both matches against FCK.
Maybe it's close to the ref's home, as both games were played at shamrock. Considering the ref "bryan" doesn't look old enough to have a license, maybe it allows him to have "snack time" at half time, and not have to depend on dad for a ride.
At any rate the game started off with an FCK goal. The KAFC defense let AJ from FCK to put a weak ball through the legs of oncoming keeper Chambers to give them a 1-0 advantage.
The quicker FCK forwards cut through the KAFC defense repeatedly, leading to Brokop drop back from his forward position to shore up the defense.
KAFC hard work paid off. A beautiful through ball to the rushing Alusine allowed him to rifle it past the FCK keeper, despite protests of offside.
The half finished tied at one a piece. With renewed optimism KAFC started the second half, unaware of the ridiculous officiating to come.
FCK got on the board early in the 2nd half, due to a comedy of errors by the KAFC defense.
Than 10 minutes later, "Zidan" miss-hit a ball out of bounds and said the nasty word "sh*t"
This word follows under the new MSA ruling of inappropiate language, and is punishable by a red card. Now, a referee can use discretion if the language is not directed at a player, ref or heard on the sideline.
That being said, the ref, who obviously needs help changing his underwear in the morning, decided that Dan should be sent off.
The game continued with inconsistent calls, mostly to the advantage of the already ahead FCK.
FCK added another 2 goals because of more defensive errors, and the game, now known as a "circus performance" continued with the ever fragile FCK complaining constantly about being hit when going for 50-50 balls.
But wait, the show wasn't over. Randy and playmaker Juan went for a loose ball at the same time, while an FCK attacker tried to unsuccessfully do his Reed Richards impression and squeeze through them.
The ref called a foul and took out the red. But here is where it gets ridiculous.
The ref didn't name the player who was to get the card. When asked who commited the foul, his response was to Juan and Randy, and I quote, "You two have to decide, but one of you is coming off"
In my whole playing career, I have never heard of more stupid ruling than that. Anxious to get the game on, and because the Ref looked like he was having a bowel movement in his diaper, Juan walked off the field accepting the red.
The hits got more aggressive, FCK cried some more, but added another one to make it 5-1 final.
A letter was sent the next day to the league, referee development and referee assignor, in the hopes that Bryan will never ref or eat his cookies at a KAFC halftime again.
Next up is the last game of the season against All whites who recently tied SJR 5-5. 3rd place is up for grabs with the Pharm Dawgs having 2 games left against the Assassins and Mb United
A loss to the all whites leaves KAFC vulnerable for Pharmdawgs to pass them as they have a game in hand, and are only behind 2 points.

In what seems to be always a classy match against the Aristocrats, Kildonan walked away with a much needed 3 points to continue their fight to maintain 3rd place in the MSSL.
Brutal Brokop and strawberry wine had 2 a piece, while Alusine who had 2, had one goal given to the aristocrats defender as an own goal.
This is karma for first half action where a loose ball was missed by the Aristocrats keeper, and the mighty Alusine decided to stroll, not run to the loose ball
Needless to say the Keeper caught up to Alusine and blocked the shot, creating a corner.
Game report to follow

The Eagle has landed and s#@t on Kildonan's head!!

Coming off the previous week loss to SJR, Kildonan was looking for revenge against the boys in green.
Positive thoughts did not pay off as 2 weak goals from SJR in the first 3 minutes started what would turn out to be a lesson in soccer.
Kildonan had plenty of chances, but could not convert. Shots were either off the crossbar, the post, the keeper or a defender.
A complete opposite of the previous week where the SJR Keeper Ian Steggles was the brick wall in the pipes, stopping point blank shots from Brokop and Stubbs
SJR players were seen shaking their head throughout the game in disbelief at how many chances Kildonan had that weren't converted.
Always a tough game, Kildonan need to shake off the loss and focus on back to back games next week.
Tuesday sees KAFC playing against the Aristocrats at Joe Malone, than facing off in the local derby against FC Kildonan at Shamrock park
With 3 games remaining, Kildonan needs to take maximum points to hold onto their third place spot.
Currently tied with Pharm Dawgs, each team has 3 games remaining. Mathematically Mb United and Assassins have a chance to take one of the spots from 3rd to 4th.
All games will be at 7 pm

Sean attacks the defence in second half action

On a night that was hot beyond belief, both teams fielded less than the starting 11 to make for an interesting defensive game.
The dawgs got on the score sheet first. a defensive error lead to Mike tam going in all alone on chambers and he rifled it to the top corner.
The second goal happened a few moments later. Another defensive mistake allowed #12 from the Dawgs alone on jason who side footed past jason on the near side, making it 2-0.
Than reinforcements showed up with Dan "I didn't get to sleep until 1pm so that's why i'm late "Gordon, Alusine "my ride is with Dan" Kamara and new boy Warren "i got lost" Isbister.
With the humidity wearing down both teams, the ball was bounced back and forth with limited opportunities on either end.
Kildonan finally got on the scoresheet when a one-two with Sean and Lee allowed Lee to blast it past the keeper to be within 1.
Halftime came and went, both teams struggled to take shots, and Kildonan was rewarded with more chances than the Dawg strikers on the other end.
85th minute produced the tieing goal. A throw in from Didi was passed back to him for a one time shot, beating the keeper at the near post.
Kildonan pressured and had a corner kick at the 90th minute, but couldn't convert, leaving the game at a 2-2 draw.
Next up league leaders SJR who have not lost yet this season, and have a 3-0 advantage in head-to-head competition last year.
Game time is 7pm on Thursday at SJR home field.

KAFC try to take advantage of a corner in the second half. Kildonan went on to win 2-1

In what proved to be one of the hottest days of the year, Kildonan took the field against rivals Mb. United.
Having only taken 4 points in the last 5 games, Kildonan was looking for their first win.
Sporting a lineup with 3 injuries, holidays, and Goru going to compete in athens for Mortal Kombat, KAFC tried to get into a good space by doing a passing warmup before the game.
While Kildonan practice their 4 v 4 passing, Mb stared in bewilderment. They must have thought one of two things:
a) These guys are really taking this game seriously
b) these guys are going to tire themselves out and we are going to walk over them
The first half was uneventful, with each team feeling each other out, and both Chambers and the Mb keeper being tested and having to come up with good saves.
The first half finished 0-0.
Second half saw Kildonan put on pressure in the Mb.United. They were rewarded with one of the first corners of the half.
The ball was floated beautifully all the way to the top of the 18 at the far post, met by the head of Didi, who powered it past the keeper to give Kildonan the lead.
Play went back and forth, with Kildonan minimizing the chances that top goal scorer Gary W from Mb Utd could have.
Kildonan pressure paid off, with a lovely 3 way passing between Sean, Lee and finished with a through ball to the streaking Scottie too hottie through the Mb defence to calmly slot the ball past the keeper, 2-0.
Manitoba appealed for offside but the ref, who officiated an excellent game would have none of it.
United pressure would not be denied. The defense could not contain a streaking Gary from United, who rifled an unstoppable shot, grazing chambers fingers as it flew into to the top far corner to bring it back within one.
Kildonan hung on for the final 10 minutes and recorded their first ever win against Mb United.
Next up are the deadly "assasins" who "knifed" KAFC in the back their first meeting.
Game is at Berwick on Thursday at 7 30 pm

Lightning strikes twice! KAFC down Rowdies

In what turned out to be a sluggish, uneventful game, KAFC managed to come out on top 1-0 winners over the rowdies.
First things first, the ref failed to show. Officiating fortunately was done by one of the rowdie's team members, who is an official ref.
Having their game cancelled earlier in the week against the all whites, (aka oranges at half time, what the hell does that mean?)due to a unmarked field, KAFC was prepared for the game, despite not having keeper Chambers for the start.
The smallest guy by stature, Strawberry Wine, took his place between the pipes and did not look out of place.
The game moved at a slow pace. Not sure if it was the heat or fear of tripping on the bike path that had plowed it's way through the east side of the field.
Kildonan created a few chances in the first half, and were either foiled by the rowdies keeper, or the mistake of making too many moves to get off the "perfect" shot.
Going into the 2nd half 0-0, Chambers had arrived and Kildonan was determined to pull out the win.
Brilliant individual effort by Didi along the wing, saw him constantly win and keep the ball, dodging 2-3 rowdie defenders at a time. He was successful in than switching the ball to the opposite side, or moving the ball into space for a pass to a teammate.
Didi's hardwork paid off. 5 minutes in, a scramble in the 18 yard box created by a cross left didi an unexpected shot after the ball rolled onto his foot.
The shot did not have a lot of power, but seemed to pop up into the air, and fell behind the back of the rowdies keeper, who in vain tried to keep it from going into the net.
1-0 to KAFC. The second half was a seesaw battle with the Rowdies making darting runs into the corner to cross over, but were stopped by the Kildonan defenders each time.
Giorgo played one of the best games of the season, despite being 'manhandled" by a rowdies attacker, who wanted to play with the "family jewels"
Kildonan created many opportunities, but were stymied by bad luck and the Rowdies keeper
Game finished with Kildonan holding their heads high and victorious in the head to head competition against the Rowdies this year. A far cry from the butt kicking last year when the Rowdies silenced Kildonan 8-0 in their inaugral game
Next up is a week break before they meet up against Mb United for a fight for third place.
Game time is 7:30 pm at Joe Malone on Monday July 23rd.
Here's hoping there are lines!!

I won't talk about the drubbing that KAFC was handed by FCK last Thursday.
Playing with less than 11 men against a quality squad like FCK will always get that type of result
On a more positive note your's truly was taking in the action of the U20 World cup in Edmonton, and was fortunate to track down the Canadian Hall of Famer and former Canadian National Team and Ipswich goaltender, Craig Forrest.
A true class act, Craig didn't hesitate when asked to have his picture taken. This was a definate hightlight of what became a disappointing game to watch, as Canada lost to Austria 1-0.

Brutal Brokop shatters own record on route to win

In a game that had everything go right for the boys in yellow, Kildonan emerged 13-1 winners over new boys, Aristocrats.
10 minutes into the game, Midfield general Juan chipped a beautiful ball across the 18 yard box to the waiting Brokop, who one-timed past the keeper to make it 1-0.
Juan was the provider again on an almost identical play, chipping the ball across the 18 yard box to the far post, where it met the head of midfielder alex who put away his first for the season to make it 2-0
The onslaught continued, with Kildonan notching another 4 goals before the half.
Kildonan came out aggressive again in the 2nd half. An awarded free kick 25 yards out was confidently struck by midfielder miguel, who hammered with the outside of his right foot, curling past the wall and leaving the keeper no chance.
Constant through balls and darting runs by the 3 Kildonan forwards produced 10 of the 13 goals, with Brutal Brokop beating his own record of netting 6 goals in one game, and Strawberry wine adding a hat trick of his own.
The Aristocrats have to be one of the best sportsmanlike clubs in the league. Lesser teams would have hung their heads down and resorted to cheap fouls out of frustration. Aristocrats played hard right to the end, and it was a treat to play against a team with this type of attitude.
Kildonan now gets ready for the local derby with league leaders FC Kildonan. FCK are undefeated so far and have scored a league high goal 35 goals, conceding only 5.
Action takes place Thursday, July 5th at Shamrock park.

KAFC vs Rowdies

Scottie too hottie controls the ball in 1st half action against the Rowdies

Brutal Brokop scores big and helps KAFC win two in a row

Shaftsbury school looked like it was hit with snowfall. No wait, it's just dandelions. With a saturated field, no lines, it seems that things weren't going to start off well for KAFC third match.
Break out the spray paint, and the squad had the field marked just in time. The All whites in their orange jerseys (?) showed up with a few men short. Literally. Danger of not fielding a team, 7 became 10 and than 11 for the kickoff.
With the long grass, it was difficult to get a passing rhythm. 10 minutes in, new signing Matt was gifted a loose ball in the 18, which he fired in to give the lead.
Brutal Brokop ended his scoring drought by converting a neat Alusine pass to beat the A.W. keeper and make the score 2-0.
One of the goals of the game was the individual play of the mexican, Juan, he nutmegged an opponent in the 18yr box, delivered a clever back heel kick to the waiting Brokop who rifled it past the keeper in the far post to make it a 3-0 lead going into the half.
There were plenty of chances for Kildonan, which were broken up by the AW defense or their keeper, who made some outstanding saves to keep them in the game.
The second half AW came out guns blazing searching for a goal. Constant pressure gave them a "gift" with an unintentional hand ball in the box. The AW striker beat Chambers and brought it to within 2.
AW didn't let up and their constant pressure caused the kildonan defense to cough up the ball in the 18, which Jason couldn't stop.
Now the pressure was on. Wave of attack and attack by the 3 rotating strikers produced no results. Plenty of chances that were stopped by the AW keeper, time and time again.
Disaster struck on a challenge by the AW keeper. The result was an indeterminable injury preventing the keeper to finish the match.
with an untested defender in the pipes, KAFC poured on the pressure. A resulting corner kick by Strawberry Wine had it sail over to the far post where it was met by the crashing Brokop to head it in, giving him a hat trick, and making the score 4-2.
In the 90th minute, with constant pressure by Kildonan, Strawberry Wine was the provider again, producing a hard cross to the far post, that was met by a streaking Didi who made no mistake and one timed it into the back of the net to make the score 5-2.
One of the cleanest games I remember in the longest time. AW was a class act who never gave up and gave Kildonan a scare in the 2nd half.
Next is a two week break until the 14th when Kildonan will meet another new entry into the league, the ominous "Assassins"

KAFC records first win of 2007

Lead by a four goal performance by newly converted striker, Strawberry Wine (Stubbs) Kildonan took their first win and first points from Rowdies.
On wet field conditions, Kildonan got off to a dream start. New signing Alusine capitalized on a loose ball in the 18 yard box and shot it past the Rowdies keeper to make it 1-0.
KAFC weren't done. 2 minutes later, a wide-run by Stubbs down the right side saw him take a speculative shot that rattled off the farside post to make it 2-0.
Showing no signs of slowing down, on an almost carbon copy play, Stubbs took the ball down the right side and took another shot outside the 18 yard box, beating the keeper and making the score 3-0.
This happened in a span of 7 minutes at the beginning of the game, boosting the morale of KAFC.
Rowdies got one back when a foul was commited outside the 18. The shot was fired at goal and bounced off Tom, beating Chambers and giving Rowdies their first goal.
Rowdies got a second 10 minutes later. A loose ball outside the 18 was scooped up and fired by a rowdies player into the far top corner, leaving Chambers no chance
2nd half started with both teams battling for ball possession. Some early pressure resulted in a Rowdies defender handling the ball in the 18. Stubbs calmly walked up to take the kick, and beat the keeper for his hat trick of the night.
10 minutes later, Alusine was in the 18 yard box and beat both the defender and keeper for the loose ball. with nothing between the net and Alusine, in desperation, the Rowdies keeper grabbed the front of Alusine shirt, holding him back for an obvious goalscoring opportunity.
Strawberry Wine stepped up to the spot, and rifled another shot past the keeper, to make it 4 goals for Lee and a 5-2 lead.
Rowdies came back to score another but KAFC held on for the victory.
next up is new entry All Whites on Thursday the 31st.

Season opener begins the way 06 season ended

KAFC started the '07 campaign with renewed optimism and a good attitude for the start of the season.
Unfortunately Man. Utd spoiled their plans.
In a game that was bitterly cold and wet, the referee announced "I don't care if you wear your ski suit today, it's cold" to which some Mb. united players took seriously, donning their sweatpants for the match.
The quick duo of Sean "brutal" Brokop and Strawberry wine stubbs terrorized the Man.Utd defense with their quick pace. It eventually lead to a goal in the 30th minute, with Stubbs pouncing on a failed clearance and put the ball into the back of the net, to give KAFC the lead, 1-0.
The second half didn't start off so well. A failed clearance attempt by the Kildonan defense left a loose ball to an attacking Mb player who tied it up.
3 minutes later, disaster struck, with an awkward challenge by "Goru" on a streaking Mb attacker brought him down inside the box, and the ref quickly pointed to the spot.
The penalty taker calmly rifled the ball into the net off the inside post, leaving chambers no chance of a save.
Kildonan pressed continually, with new signing Alusine trying to add to his tally and to help collect on his bet with Brokop of being the top goal scorer for the end of the year.
Brutal Brokop repeatedly created and rec'd chances in front of the Mb goal, but was either denied, or rifled it over the net.
2 of the 3 "mexican connection" were in the lineup and dominated the midfield throughout the game. Their lone "brother" was stuck fighting bear in Red Lake Ontario and could not get back to make the game
With 30 seconds from time, Manitoba fired past their third goal and took the season opener 3-1.
A disappointing result for the boys in yellow, but the team showed promise and good passing throughout the game.
Kildonan now prepares for their battle with the geriatics club of winnipeg, Rowdies, on tuesday at Joe Malone. All kidding aside, KAFC did not take one point from the "q-tips" last year and won't take this game lightly.

New season kicks off May 24th with new faces

The M.S.S.L schedule was announced today, and K.A.F.C. will see action starting May 24th against rivals, Manitoba United.
Kildonan last played Manitoba United in the first round of the 2006 playoffs, finishing 3-1 losers in that game.
Kildonan than have 2 more games within that week, going up against Rowdies on Tuesday, May 29th and than Thursday May 31 against new entry, All Whites
The league lost one team this year, Soca Devils, but were replaced by 3 new entries, All Whites, Assassins and Aristocrats.
"Obviously starting the season with 3 games in 7 days is not ideal. Compounding that fact is two of those teams, we managed to only take 1 point from in 6 matches. Going into this season, we can't depend on our results against the new teams, although it benefited us last year. To maintain competitivness, we need to take more points from the top 4 teams" reasoned Manager David
The M.S.S.L season will consist of home/away games against each team, leading to a 16 game schedule. Playoffs will follow after.

Tight game ends in a KAFC controversial win!!

In typical Winnipeg fashion, hot during the day, freakin' cold at night, K.A.F.C. took to the field to play against Ragnarok.
The game played 40 minute halves was evenly matched. Chambers played outstanding in the K.A.F.C net blocking every shot thrown at him.
The half ended 0-0 and with a bench of 5 subs, compared to Ragnarok's 0, K.A.F.C took to the field looking for a win.
Raganrok struck first. A mis-attempt at clearing a cross in the box, lead to the ball landing on the Ragnarok striker's foot who slotted it past Jason to make it 1-0
Kildonan continued pressure, with excellent individual build up play by Lee, Juan, Pedro and Didi that nearly involved a few goals. A low cross the 18 yard box was narrowly missed by the onrushing Alusine
Kildonan was rewarded in the 60th minuted. A failed clearance had Lee pounce on the ball and hammer it into the net tieing it up 1-1.
With renewed optimism, Kildonan kept pressuring, with the Ragnarok defense coughing up another loose ball to Sean, who slotted it past the Ragnarok keeper to make it 2-1.
Ragnarok fought back and tested Chambers many times, however Chambers and the Kildonan defense were up to the task
With Kildonan a minute away from victory, a questionable incident occured. The timekeeper was the Ragnarok coach, who may have let the clock go on a little longer than need be. A ball was unsuccessfully cleared to a Ragnarok attacker. He one timed into the hands of "Borat" The Ragnarok team within sight yelled "handball" and Chambers paused to figure out what was happening. Not missing a stride, the Ragnarok striker fired the rebound again, between the legs of Chambers, tieing it up. Sorta
Kildonan is going to take this win because:
1) the official time was up, but conveniently not called :)
2) an appeal for handball in a game situation would have stopped play
3) we're better looking than Ragnarok :)

All in all, it was an even matched game, with Ragnarok providing excellent competition as KAFC head into their first game next week against Manitoba United.
We would like to thank Ragnarok for their sportsmanship and wish them luck in Division 3 of the MMSL.

K.A.F.C took to the big field at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex to face 4th place finishers Manitoba United in first round action of the M.S.S.L playoffs.
Kildonan actually having subs on the bench, the boys in yellow wanted to exact revenge for the previous 2 losses to MB.
After Kildonan settled into the game, their passes and distribution on the larger field seemed to suit Kildonan more so than Manitoba
The game remained scoreless until the 38th minute. Newly converted striker Daniel Lemky carried the ball down the right flank past the United defender. His low, hard accurate cross found the foot of Sean "flash" Brokop who tapped it past the United keeper to give KAFC the lead.
Sentiments from the sidelines were "now if we can just keep the lead into the half". Disaster struck, a defensive error and Mb capitilzed on a poor clearance, with United slotting the ball past keeper Jason on the near side to draw level.
Kildonan entered the second half determined to not let the game go out of reach. They continued pressure but were not rewarded for their efforts. United scored two goals on headers that helped them finish 3-1 victors over Kildonan, and advancement in the second round to SJR.
Kildonan placed 5th out of 7 teams, so for a first year club, there are alot of positives to take out of the season and a good foundation for next year.
K.A.F.C would like to congratulate league runner's up FC Kildonan who captured the Playoff title against SJR in the final. Congratulations to SJR who dominated the league this year, having an 18-0 record. Ryan S. from SJR was also crowned top goal scorer.

Pre-season training/conditioning will begin in February, day, time and location T.B.D.

Have a healthy off-season
