KAFC falls in the Quarters-2018

Kildonan earned their way into the Quarters, defeating West St. Paul 2 days prior, 5-1. With frigid conditions and constant rain for 90 mins, Kildonan held off the 3rd place finshers scoreless after the first 45.

Stingray struck first, passing the ball within the 18 yard box and making no mistake to give them the lead.

Kildonan rebounded back off a corner kick, finding Justin who headed the ball home just inside the 18 yard box.

Stingray applied constant pressure and were rewarded with 3 more goals to put the game out of reach and earn their place in the semi-finals.

Big hand to Luis who stepped into goalkeeping duties and made some crucial saves in the first half to deny Stingray a lead.

Kildonan Athletic 2017

KAFC in playoff action

Kildonan faces off in first round action against West St.Paul tonight, 9pm at the Waverley Complex, Field #1.

KAFC lost both regular season encounters by 1 goal, including an exhibition game in pre-season. Kildonan finished 8th in the standings out of 12 teams, and struggled with injuries for most of the season.

Should Kildonan win, they advance to the quarter finals on Thursday the 20th facing off against either Stingray (3) or SJR (2).

Snakebitten again!KAFC fail to advance

For the 3rd in a row, United Punjab defeated Kildonan Athletic in the first round of the playoffs, denying them an opportunity to reach the semi-finals.

United is clearly KAFC Achilles heal in the playoffs. Despite beating them both times in regular season, United was well prepared for the game, having a number of subs on the bench to assist.

KAFC got the go ahead goal. Warren looked to give a pass to a rushing Justin, but the ball was kicked by a trailing defender past his own keeper to give them the lead.

United responded on a corner kick. A low hard cross found Phil facing the net and the ball bounced off his foot and went into the net, leaving devin no chance.

United pressed and found gaps in the center midfield.  An unsuccessful attempt at clearing the ball, found an unmarked UPSC attacker who smashed the ball home from 25 yrds to go up by 1.

United got their 3rd of the match, another long range shot at a difficult angle that Devin had no chance at.

2nd half was better as KAFC was more composed and passed the ball around more. Kildonan was rewarded with a  penalty in the 75th minute, when Justin was brought down in the box by a defender. He stepped up and made no mistake to give them a fighting chance.

Despite constant pressure, KAFC's shots were weak when in the 18 yrd box and didn't test the keeper. United reverted to the "dump and chase" routine of clearing the ball which worked to kill off the game and give them the 3-2.

Despite the defeat, 2017 was the best performance in almost 10 years, finishing 2nd in the league with a 10-4-2 record.

Kildonan will be back in 2018 to try and improve upon their 2017 showing.

KAFC look to advance in the playoffs

Kildonan with their 2nd place finish in the regular season, take on United Punjab tonight, 7pm at Shaughnessy Park.

In their previous 2 playoff meetings, KAFC have been unlucky and have lost both games, allowing United Punjab to advance to the finals.

With Collins gone on vacation, KAFC will look to Justin and Jay to continue their scoring form and a solid back line, that finished 2nd for G.A., to help Kildonan advance to the semi-finals.

Kildonan record their 9th win!!

Kildonan recorded their 9th win of the season, and surpassed their point total of last year with a narrow 1-0 win over United Punjab.

The game was played as shortened 35 min. halves as the U.P. team did not want to start the game with 9 guys as they were sporting some injuries. Surprisingly, they ended up with 12 guys and played the game, with no one looking like they were injured.

The only goal of the game came from a beautiful cross from the right, delivered by Ian. The ball found the back post and Warren timed his run to hit the ball one time into the net to stun the United team and give KAFC the lead.

United almost got it back, when Devin clumsily bowled over an attacker in the 18 yard box and were awarded a penalty.

Devin guessed right and the United attacker hit a soft shot for Devin to keep the shut-out and the win.

Next up is Elmwood Wanderers on Aug. 8th at East St. Paul. Kick off is now at 7 pm

KAFC record 7th win

Kildonan dominated most of the match and came out 4- 1 winners over Fort Rouge.

Luis got his first goal of the season, that he tapped through the near post on a resulting free kick in the 10th minute.

Despite having majority of play, KAFC couldn't bury their multiple opportunities as the 1st half progressed. Ayew got the 2nd just before half time. FR players complained that Ayew was offside as he headed to the far post on a cross and made the slightest of touches to go in.

2nd half the hits from FR kept coming and KAFC lost their cool at certain times. FR was awarded a penalty shortly after the re-start, when Stefan was judged to bring down the Fort Rouge attacker to go within 1.

Jay was rewarded with his 6th  of the season, beating the FR keeper at the far post on a low angled shot.

Collins added the fourth shortly before the ref called the game due to the boiling tensions on the field. Probably a good call with only 8 minutes remaining and tempers flaring.

Next up is Rowdies at Shaftsbury H.S. with a 730 kick off.

KAFC keep their unbeaten streak

Kildonan kept their unbeaten streak alive but had to come from behind in the 2nd half and tie it up late to leave with a 1-1 draw against Stingray FC.

Kildonan looked disorganized in the first half and had trouble  putting passes together.  There were multiple opportunities in the 18 yrd box, but most attempts were wasted or blocked by quick Stingray defenders.

A corner kick that wasn't converted into a shot on net, allowed Stingray possession and quick counterattack in the first 10 minutes, allowed 1 stingray attacker to go one on one with Devin  who made no mistake to give them a lead.

2nd half was better for KAFC. Passing and distribution were a lot better, but many shots were blocked or easy efforts for the keeper to stop.

Kildonan tied it up with a low, hard shot from Justin on a free kick that he earned. After being brought down outside the box, Justin hammered the ball past the keeper and the wall to tie it up at 1.

Next up is United Punjab on Tuesday the 11th, and then Rowdies on Thursday the 13th. Both games at Joe Malone, 7:30 pm

Positive result in Exhibition
