KAFC 2009

Kildonan fail to advance to finals

The winner of this game meant advancement to the finals, which would have been a first for KAFC.
However, SJR wanted this more, after having a sub-par season, they wanted to add something to the trophy case and they succeeded getting past KAFC by a score of 4-0.
SJR struck in the first half with some sloppy defending, leaving SJR top goal scorer paul lodewyks a head in the 6 yrd box that he made no mistake on.
Shortly after, Devin was hurt on another cross, possibly dislocating his elbow. Devin soldiered on, but had to leave the game in the 2nd half after a 2nd goal. jason was at a wedding, so Josh had to be put in devin's place.
Despite missing Lee and Daniel L up front, KAFC couldn't get the ball to sean to even getting an opportunity to shoot on the SJR goal.
KAFC did not resemble the team that played throughout the year and although the goals were less then in previous years, KAFC suffered their worst defeat of the season, allowing SJR to progress to the finals were they beat the Pharm Dawgs for a 2nd year in a row.

Despite the loss, Kildonan has a very successful season, capturing their first title in their short 4 years history. Only Manitoba United has managed to take the title from SJR since 2000. SJR has won it every other year.
Kildonan will start their pre-season ramp up again in the new year, as they prepare for their defence of the title.

Kildonan MSSL 2009 Champions

Kildonan Athletic 1 Manitoba United 1

Despite tieing Mb United 1-1, Kildonan still walked away with the MSSL champion trophy for 2009.

Due to MSSL rules the tiebreaker format for teams level on points is the head to head competition through the season among tied teams.

Even if OAH win tonight, KAFC was fortunate to beat OAH all 3 times during the season, effectively sealing the crown for 2009, regardless of the result.

KAFC didn't have a particularly strong performance. not many balls were won in the midfield and MB.united seemed to dominate possession for most of the game.

MB got on the board first in the 2nd half. some one touch passing released a streaking Mb. player who shrugged off a KAFC challenge and buried the ball leaving Devin no chance.

Kildonan struck back 10 minutes later. Lorenzo the provider, he won a ball inside the 18 and passed it off to Lee who one timed it in the net to level the score at one.

Kildonan could have buried the win later on. Lee was brought down in the penalty box and was awarded a penalty kick.

Josh stepped up for the penalty, beat the keeper but not the crossbar as it rattled off back into play.

time winded down and despite some pressure couldn't get the game winner.

Next up is the semi-finals, which KAFC have only gotten to once. finishing in first gave KAFC a bye into the first round.

Semi's take place saturday the 12th at 1pm, Joe Malone, team T.B.D.

Entegra CU Man of the Match: This one is a joint winner, to Devin and LeeDevin stopped a pk kick and was solid in the back when Mb threatened. Lee got the tieing goal that helped secure the championship for 2009.

Victory at LAST

Kildonan finally defeats SJR, 3-2!

Sean (1) Mike (1) Doug (1)

After 4 years, Kildonan were finally able to claim victory over a resilient SJR side.

KAFC got on the board first. Lorenzo was the provider giving a well placed pass to Sean just outside the 18. using his patented move, sean created himself some space and fired the first goal home, leaving the SJR keeper no chance.

Mike was the 2nd goal scorer. a long throw from cody within the 18 yard box missed everyone except mike, who managed to guide the ball in with his hip on the goal line.

SJR was awarded a soft penalty in the box when Hefe brought down an SJR attacker near the touchline. The SJr shooter made no mistake and brought them within one.

SJR didn't tie it up until the 2nd half. Some miscommunication allowed an SJR player to beat Devin and almost sink KAFC hopes of a title.

However with 5 minutes to go and Kildonan pressing, a long ball was switched from one end of the field to the other, finding an unmarked Doug.

Doug brought it down with one-touch and hit it hard on the volley to beat the keeper on the far side.

The goal made it feel like KAFC won the world cup, as they hung on for their first ever win against SJR and moved one game closer to the championship.

Last game is Mb United who should prove stiff competition for KAFC final game.

Game time is 6:30pm at Joe Malone

D&S Auto Man of the Match: Doug Courtemanchenot only did doug score the game winner, his shot made the top goal of the season. A rocket from at least 35 yards out, he left the keeper no chance as it hit the far top side of the goal.

KAFC down Rowdies

Kildonan athletic 3 Rowdies 1

Sean Brokop (2) Chris Wilkinson (1)

Kildonan continued strong by beating the Rowdies for a second time this season.

Brokop missed a few opportunities in the first 10 minutes, but made no mistakes on adding 2 to his season tally.

Despite Rowdies getting back one, Kildonan held on and with a goal by Wilkinson late in the 2nd half, ensured the 3 points for Kildonan.

Rowdies pressed KAFC in the second half and almost got a few breaks with their one-two passing, but Kildonan held on from the strong backline of Tom, Jeff, Chuka, Giorgo, Didi and Josh.

D & S Auto Man of the Match: Chuka
Chuka has had to drop into central defense with the absence of Amp and has done extremely well adapting. His energy and speed has saved Kildonan from goals since slotting back into the position.

Next up is SJR on Monday. A crucial game, Kildonan needs to win to have a chance to take the MSSL crown for 2009. A loss would give OAH an opportunity to pass them by 3 points. OAH has 4 games remaining, 3 of them against the Rowdies, and the 4th against the Pharm Dawgs.

Game takes place at SJR, 7PM

Kildonan derby ends in tie

FC Kildonan 1 Kildonan athletic 1

Lee Stubbs (1)

The last regular season derby against FCK ended in a stalemate, with each team taking a point.

Athletic got off to a good start with Stubbs, back in the lineup from a 2 game absence, hit a low hard shot at the 17minute mark that took a wicked bounce and beat the FCK keeper.

FCK struck back shortly after. A long cross from the far left side, deep in the KAFC half, found an suprisingly unmarked FCK attacker, who took a shot from an impossible angle outside the 18, leaving Lambert no chance.

No scoring in the 2nd half, and KAFC had the majority of possession, and despite some appeals for hands balls in the box by FCK, no penalties were awarded, and the game ended tied.

D & S Auto Man of the Match: Cody Mctavish Cody had a huge game and was all over the pitch, winning balls, defending and creating problems for the FCK defenders.

Dan holds off OAH Defender

Kildonan vs Pharm dawgs

Chuka tries to win the ball in first half action as a streaking Pedro provides support.

KAFC lose nail biter

Kildonan Athletic 1 SJR 2

Not much to report here. Kildonan was looking for the win to cement their hold on first place, but it was not to be.

On the short field Kildonan had trouble adapting and SJR got off to the lead with a wide SJR collecting the ball and beating Jason on the short side.

Missing both sean and lee upfront, Kildonan tried to muster an attack and were finally rewarded with a brilliant individual performance from Chris.

Chris received the ball at the edge of the 18 and despite stumbling and being surrounded by 3 SJR players, he managed to steady himself and send a rocket into the far post to tie it up.

KAFC were caught napping a little later. SJR free kick was taken expertly, driving a low cross to the outside of the 18 yard box where a unmarked SJR forward hit it home to go up by 1.

KAFC now has to prepare for their derby match against FC Kildonan. Last time FCK came out 4-2 winners, despite KAFC up by 2 goals at the end of the first half.
with 4 games to go all points are vital to get the league championship.

D & S Auto Man of the Match: Lorenzo Ezekwem
Lorenzo after missing all of last week had an outstanding game, winning the ball in midfield and distributing it with pinpoint accuracy. He also put pressure on SJR for the final 10 minutes with his ball dribbling skills and KAFC were unlucky to not come out with a point.

Honorable mention to Chris Wilkinson for his beauty of a goal in the 2nd half

KAFC add another win

Kildonan Athletic 2 OAH 1

A hard fought win and Kildonan emerges 2-1 winners over Oranges for the 3rd straight time this season.

unveiling new signing Daniel lemky, a former KAFC player, daniel was thrown up front with sean to generate some offense.

Sean had 2 opportunities but let concentration slip and had too many steps, which allowed a trailing defender to catch him both times and he was unsuccessful to put the ball in the back of the net.

44th minute and a defensive mistake allowed a OAH forward to receive the ball on the far left side of the 18, move in and strike it past the short side of Devin to go up by 1.

Beyond that Devin had a huge first half, making some key saves.

2nd half and KAFC didn't disappoint. sean evaded 3 defenders by doing a neat one-two pass, dragged the ball from the outside 18 to the center and curled an unstoppable left footed shot into the top left corner, leaving the OAH keeper with no chance, to tie it up with 1.
This goal is one of the top five KAFC goals of the season.

OAH keeper continued to make some point blank saves keeping the score level, while the defensive line, lead by Chuka, kept OAH at bay.

The game wrapped up with former Cav, Jeff "Hefe" Hiebert, who from his defensive position, worked the ball down the left side until getting to the 18, and fired past the keeper on the short side to give KAFC the winning goal

The dying minutes OAH had a chance to tie it up on a free kick, but the dirt pile in front of the north goal re-directed the hard low shot over the crossbar.

D & S Auto Man of the Match: Hefe Hiebert Goal scorers shouldn't always get the award, but this was a huge match and Hefe came from a defender position to get the game winner. Jeff donates his goal to his good friend who recently passed away, Randy.

Honorable mentions go to the keepers, Devon and Jason who each had a half, Chuka who settled in as central defender for Amp, and the dirt patch at the north end net!
More importantly this was a team win, and the whole team did well defensively to hold OAH at 1 goal, and succeed as the only team to defeat them this season.

Next up is SJR on monday the 10th. Kildonan still looking for the elusive 3 points against SJR, who recently lost to the Rowdies last week.

Pharm Dawgs Forfeit

Kildonan 3 Pharm Dawgs 0

Not much to report. Unfortunately the Pharm dawgs failed to have the minimum 8 players for kickoff, resulting in a forfeit loss, and Kildonan awarded 3 points for the win.

Kildonan now prepares for thursday's match against Oranges, which will be for first place.

Level on games played, Kildonan sits 2 points ahead of Oranges, and 5 ahead of FCKildonan.

Heading into the final 6 games, Kildonan plays Oranges once, Rowdies once, Fc Kildonan once, Manitoba united once and SJR twice more.

Oranges might have the easiest final games, having to play the rowdies 3 times, due to the ref not showing up and weather, Pharm Dawgs and SJR.
SJR has only played 9 games and will have to have the final 9 packed in the next 4 weeks. Having played Mb.United tonight, they play them once more and have matches against FC Kildonan (2), Rowdies, Oranges, Pharm Dawgs and KAFC twice.

FC Kildonan faces SJR twice more, manitoba united, rowdies, pharm dawgs and KAFC.

All teams make the playoffs with first place getting a bye in the opening round.
The title is up for grabs with OAH, FCK Kildonan Athletic and SJR all have a legitimate shot at it.

KAFC squeak out another W

Kildonan 1 OAH 0

Another gritty performance and some outstanding saves from Devin, allowed Kildonan to go 1-0 winners over OAH on thursday night action.

Kildonan dominated the first half and both Sean, Lee and Chuka had some opportunities wasted they allowed the OAH defenders to close them down.

Sean got the only, and game winning goal prior to the end of the first half.

2nd half saw OAH renew pressure and had plenty more chances in front of the net, but they typically sailed over high and wide.

Like his last game against SJR, Devin stopped some point blank shots to keep the oranges off the board.

Despite an onslaught of Oranges at the end of stoppage time, the Kildonan backline of Tom, Amp, Chuka, Didi, Cody and Josh, prevented any goals scored and preserved the win.

Entegra Credit Union Man of the Match: Devin McAuley a huge performance from the young netminder, he came up big on numerous chances to preserve the win. Honorable mention goes to the game scorer and winner Sean Brokop

KAFC settle for 1 point in SJR Draw

Kildonan 1 SJR 1

It was a long time coming but KAFC finally nicked a point from SJR in monday night's contest.

The first half was controlled by KAFC, but not as many shots as they would have liked. Phoenix youth call up Omar did well in the striker position, moving the ball well around the aging SJR defense, and causing problems.

Comments from the SJR bunch is that KAFC dominated the first half, and were rewarded with an ugly goal, 2 minutes from time in the first half.

SJR failed to clear a ball which was dumped quickly back in over the SJR defenders to the waiting Luigi. what seemed to take an eternity, luigi got the ball through one defender and shot it. the ball deflected off another defender, beat the keeper, hit the post, bounced up to the crossbar and stayed out.

Fortunately luigi followed his shot and his basically forced the ball over the line with his body for the goal.

2nd half started well but SJR picked up the pace, missing most of their main team for the contest. Disaster struck, when a lucky SJR forward shot the ball 40 yards out in an attempt to lob it over Devin who was off his line.

he should buy a lottery ticket, as devin couldnt' back pedal in time and SJR tied it up at one.

Despite some mental lapses by the defense, SJR executed some successful counterattacks, but Devin came up huge, trying to make up for his gaffe.

he stopped 2 point blank shots to keep the game tied at one.

Despite some pressure for the final 8 minutes, Kildonan couldnt' find the go ahead goal and had to settle for 1 point.

Entegra Credit union Man of the Match: Devin McAuley Despite his mistake, Devin made up for it with huge saves in the second half, preserving the 1 point. Honorable mention to Luigi for scoring the go ahead goal, being in the right place at the right time.

Next up is OAH.

OAH has had no problem scoring lately, and their only loss this season is to Kildonan Athletic. A huge game, a win for Kildonan can put them within 1 point of first place over OAH, with a game on hand.

Kildonan edges close one

Kildonan 1 Manitoba United 0

The score was deceiving but Kildonan walked out with a 1-0 winner over Mb. United.

Despite having the majority of play in the first 45, Kildonan couldn't put the ball past the Mb united sub keeper.

Both Sean and Lee blasted the ball over the net or at the keeper. Jason faced a total of 2 shots the first half, and the ref was on top of any potential physical play of manitoba united. infractions were whistled down quickly, much to the displeasure of the Mb. team

Kildonan's new halftime ritual of keeping active at half has paid off as KAFC started strong in the 2nd half.

It took 70 minutes for Kildonan to break the deadlock. Sean collected the ball and ran to the goal touchline pursued by a Mb player. He expertly chipped the ball over 2 manitoba defenders which bounced off one head and literally landed on Lee's forehead who was unmarked.

Lee made no mistake and nodded the ball past the keeper, much to complaints for an offside call that would never come.

the rest of the game saw kildonan pour more pressure but to no avail. with 10 minutes left, sean was left with a breakaway and needed to chip the falling keeper.

out of nowhere the mb. united keeper got his hand up and smacked the ball down smothering it.

Manitoba put additional pressure for the 5 minutes where cramps forced off defender Amp off the field, but Kildonan weathered the storm and despite 4 minutes of extra time, held on to the win.

Entegra Man of the Match: Lee Stubbs/Didi Tekasala
Lee gets the nod for his game winner, and didi who played the entire game. His phenomenal work rate allowed Didi to challenge and win practically every ball during the game.

Next up is a huge game against SJR on monday at st.johns ravencourt, 7:30pm

KAFC down Rowdies

Kildonan 5 Rowdies 2

The writer had a whole report written only to have it accidently deleted with inactivity on leaguelineup.

A brief rundown, Sean opened scoring with the Cody patented 18 yard box throw, and added two more for a hat trick.

Mike Mckay got what has to be the goal of the season, with a 30 yard blast that hit the top left corner.

Marty added the 5th beating the keeper on the short side.

Entegra Credit union Man of the Match Sean Brokop/Cody McTavish: M.O.M for Sean and his 3 goal performance, and for Cody who assisted on 2 goals and was outstanding all over the field.

KAFC 2 FC Kildonan 4

Despite going up 2-0 at the end of the first half, KAFC couldn't hold onto the lead and surrendered 4 second half goals to lose 4-2 on monday night.

KAFC controlled most of the first 15 minutes of play. The first goal was a counterattack deep in the KAFC end. A through ball found sean bursting down the right side with a defender and keeper to beat. Sean did both, to put KAFC up by one.

Stubbs was the scorer of the second. a high ball floated to the top of the 18 were a waiting Stubbs half volleyed the ball past the FCK keeper, who had no chance.

lorenzo was guilty of 2 glorious opportunities, along with Mckay who missed a vital soft touch in front of the net.

unfortunately KAFC came out flat in the second and FCK capitilzied scoring in the 47th minute, and tieing it up a few minutes later. they went onto control most of the play and add another 2 goals with some slick 1-2 passing to finish winners 4-2.

2 games coming up this week, with KAFC facing the Rowdies and Manitoba United both at Joe malone, monday and wednesday.

Entegra Credit union Man of the Match: Jason Lambert despite 4 goals against, jason was outstanding in net, making crucial saves and keeping the game respectable.

Kildonan produces hard fought victory

Kildonan 3 Pharm Dawgs 2

Kildonan started with just 1 sub but moved the ball quickly, with the wind being the 12th man.

An early throw in at the Pdawgs 18 saw the ball rocket to the 6 yard box where newcomer Mike Mckay got the ball and rifled it into the net to give them a 1-0 lead.

Kildonan extended their lead 5 minutes later with a similar throwin, this time Chris capitalizing on the loose ball and slamming it past the keeper to make it 2.

Pedro playing like a man possessed got the 3rd goal, but surprisingly the ref called it back for a questionable offside.

pressure continued and Chuka got the third, a through ball that he managed to push past the defender and fire in a low hard shot to make it 3.

Mckay was unlucky to have a possible 2nd goal. being in the right place a nice low cross was balloned over the crossbar instead of a nice side foot into the gaping net.

Despite having a 3 goal lead, kildonan relaxed too much and allowed the pharm dawgs 2 goals that should have been prevented.

Chris was robbed when he beat the offside trap and fired the ball home, but the ref judged him to be offside

Mike had another chance but it rattled off the crossbar as kildonan buckled down for the last 15 minutes and put more pressure on the dawgs defence.

at the end Kildonan scraped by with a victory and have a week off before they face FC Kildonan in the derby match on July 13th.

Entegra Credit union man of the match: Pedro Lepe A spirited, hardworking performance for pedro gifted him with a "should have been goal" and had him constantly attacking and defending the midfield.

KAFC victors over OAH

Kildonan 4 OAH 3 Kildonan was fortunate to have a full squad while OAH could only field 9 players for game time. Despite starting 2 minutes late, the ref strangely said the halves would be 40minutes each.

The team pounced on the numerical advantage and managed to string some passes and feed sean, who beat the marker and the keeper to put Kildonan up by 1.

OAH added more players and did well before that, but Lee was rewarded with the 2nd goal to give them a 2-0 lead.

OAH got one back by turning the KAFC defense around and shot a low hard shot past jason to cut down the lead by 1.

the game turned strange with some bizzare calls both ways by the ref. Wrong people were written on the report and the ref seemed to always hand out cards in pairs, one for OAH, one for KAFC.
another hand ball in the box gifted OAH with a penalty shot. Jason did superb to block the initial shot, but the KAFC team was sleeping as the rebound made its way to an OAH player who got to the ball and finished what the shooter couldn't do.
Lee got the third to stretch the lead by 1. this was followed by another penalty shot for OAH, which was unjustly given for another hand ball offense?

Karma came back as the OAH player unsuccessfully tried the ronaldo stutter step, but stuttered a bit too long. the ref whistled it down and gave a free kick to KAFC.
Kildonan scored their first by the hard work of chris wilkinson, who followed the shot at the keeper. the OAH keeper couldn't hang on when chris came barreling down, who fell and booted the ball from underneath the keeper and into the net.

OAH got another one back with an own goal. Amp was guilty of heading the ball into the net on what was supposed to be a chip pass to an OAH player.

Kildonan dug in and hung onto the victory to extend their league at the top of the table.

Entegra Credit Union Man of the match: Chris Wilkinson
for what turned out to be the game winner and for his hard work on winning the ball and the goal. chris proved that nobody should give up on a 50/50 ball

Next up is the Pharm Dawgs on monday june 29th at Joe Malone.

Rowdies 4 KAFC 1
Font color=black> Kildonan dropped points to an older Rowdies side in what was a dispirited, disappointing display.

Missing the injured Paul Jones in midfield and Sean Brokop up front, Kildonan didn't mount any serious threat to the elder rowdies in the first half.

Rowdies got on the board with a cross from the left that the 6'2 rowdies attacker was able to jump and head the ball, despite Tom trying to back pedal to get to him.

Although coach jim kept largely quiet at half time, captain Amp tried to motivate the troops but the 2nd half started as it ended.

Defensive errors, failure to put more than 2 passes together, allowed the Rowdies to put another 2 goals past Jason, 10 minutes apart.

although the 3rd was questionable, the ref had blown the whistle for the foul before he shot, the ref changed his mind when the ball went into the back of the net and allowed the goal to stand.

More bad luck followed. A scramble in the 18 yard box had Josh trying to clear the ball. as he fell down attempting to block it, the ball hit his hand and the ref pointed to the spot.

Goal #4 for rowdies and the rout was on.

Kildonan seemed to come to life for the last 15 minutes. Hard work paid off when lorenzo collected the ball in the midfield and put through a pinpoint pass to the streaking Didi on the left wing.

Didi beat 2 defenders as he marched into the 18 and fired a low hard shot at the near post, beating the keeper and giving them a goal.

Kildonan face OAH who are undefeated so far, we believe, this season. They boast a young team that can run, and the hopes that KAFC can settle down the game and stick to positions and accurate passing to take a much needed 3 points in the first match between the teams.
Their last meeting was in the first round of the 2008 playoffs, where KAFC embarrasingly lost 8-1.

Local Derby produces a draw

FC Kildonan 2 Kildonan Athletic 2
Despite no referree and lots of rain, the game continued in the local "derby" match between FC Kildonan and Kildonan athletic.

Despite playing less than 24 hours earlier in the MSA cup, KAFC dug in and salvaged the game with a goal by Marty to produce a 2-2 draw on monday night.

The draw represents the first point KAFC have ever taken off of FC K since KAFC joined the league in 2006.

Lee Stubbs scored his second in as many games and Marty from midfield finally broke his goose egg getting the tieing goal in the 2nd half.

Credit to keeper Jason, who stopped a penalty shot which proved to be a decisive save in the game.

Next up is the Rowdies on June 17th at Joe Malone field.

Kildonan out of MSA cup

Kildonan elminated out of MSA cup in the first round, going down 5-3 to the Kings Head knights.

Game report to follow.

Kildonan starts their MSA Cup challenge

Kildonan kicks off their MSA cup challenge against MMSL division 3 opponent, Kings Head Knights at the waverley complex, field #2 at 4pm on sunday, june 7th.

Kildonan expects tough opposition from Kings head, who finished 8 out of 18 teams in the 2008 season and will not want to be upset by an MSSL team in the first round.

Paul controls the ball in the 2nd half

Kildonan add another W

Kildonan second match of the season was another success as they beat Manitoba United 2-0.

In a game that saw the return of marksman Lee Stubbs, Kildonan was intent on controlling the ball and implementing their new system.

Mb was intent on destroying that. Their tactics were similar to a rugby match. Lots of body checks off the ball and grabbing jerseys. Hey, if you want the yellow jerseys so bad, you just had to ask after the game !

Kildonan held their ground and physically punished, but prevented Mb from mounting any type of offensive threat.

Athletic was rewarded in the 60th minute. A long throw in from new signing Cody, had the ball land in the middle of a scrum near the goal line. In what can be described as an ugly goal, it somehow bounced a few times off a few bodies and landed in the net. No one knows if Luigi or Lee should be credited, but the ref decided to award it to the one player who wasn't on the field, Marty!

The second goal was a beaut. 10 minutes later a kildonan break in the center of the field, had a long cross sail over the Mb. defenders in the far corner. Lee rushed over, won the ball and did a classic nutmeg through the defenders legs, despite the defender trying to rip the jersey off Lee's back.

Lee made another neat move to beat another defender before firing the ball low into the near side beating the keeper and giving Kildonan their second goal.

Kildonan held on to the rest of the game and helped Jason with his second shutout in 2 games.

Credit to the whole team for keeping their composure on what was a one-sided officiating match. The ref didn't feel the need to protect jason when he was surrounded by two Mb. United players who forcefully tried to uproot the ball from him. Calls were non-existent and coach David was lectured and threatened to be removed from the field for dissent.

Here's hoping we don't see him again.

D & S Man of the match - the whole team deserves this. The game wouldn't have been won without lee's second or the lee/luigi combo for the first goal. but this star has to be AMP who was solid as central defender and took a literal beating from the Mb.United forwards who couldn't match his pace, and decided to use their body to get him back.
Next up is FC Kildonan on monday the 8th.

Kildonan win season opener!!

Kildonan entered their opening match coming off a string to pre-season losses, and only have 12 players available.
fortunately the pharm dawgs only came with 12.

Although it took 10 minutes to settle down, Kildonan executed their new system properly, having spent an hour of training understanding the expectations. The back D line of captain Amp, Tom and GK Devin as a new defender, stifled the Pharm Dawg attack. Playing in front of them, Didi and Josh hustled to win the loose balls and feed it up front.

The first half would go with a 0-0 tie and most of the chances coming for Kildonan.

It would take until the 60th minutes for the deadlock to be broken.

New signing Josh C went up to take a free kick approx. 30 yards out. With confidence he struck the ball hard and it dipped toward the ground at the goalies hands. Unfortunately for the dawgs goalie the slick conditions and power of the shot went right through his hands and legs, to give Kildonan the much needed goal.

Kildonan added a 2nd a few minutes later. Hard work paid off as the dawgs coughed up a ball just outside the 18. the onrushing Chuka seeing that he couldn't take the shot stepped over the ball as Paul Jones came in from the opposite side and took a 1 time shot that powered past the keeper at the far post.

Kildonan dug in and despite the dawgs persistence, couldn't break the back line as Kildonan walked away with the win and the important 3 points.

Hats off to the whole team, who despite the weather and lack of subs, made a huge improvement over pre-season and worked harder then they ever had. Two very proud coaches were on the sideline to see the team get the well deserved win.

Next up is Mb. United who kildonan split their home and away series last year with a game a piece. Game time is Wednesday at 7:30 pm, Joe Malone.

Entegra man of the match

The Entegra Credit union man of the match is for the 2 goal scorers, Josh Conceicao with his game winning goal, and Paul Jones for the insurance marker.

Honorable mention to the 5 man backline, Amp, Devin, Tom, Didi, Josh and Jason the keeper for holding up the shut out.

Kildonan lose 4th pre-season match

Kildonan ended up taking to the field against 4th division opposition Kings park rangers

Despite only having 10 guys to start, kings park jumped to an early lead.

Kildonan seemed a bit lost with their new system and the cold weather.

there wasn't much else to report. Kildonan failed to mount a serious threat against Kings park and wound up 5-0 losers.

KAFC to face....?

Kildonan next game is monday night at 7 pm, Crocus Park. Although the competition hasn't been confirmed yet, the backup plan is to practice that night.

Kildonan is trying to rebound from their 3 pre-season match and loss to MMSL Wpg Division Red Devils.
Despite being a new outdoor team, the core group have been playing as an indoor team for a few years now and dispelled their new comer status.

They struck for 2 first half goals, created by defensive mistakes to go up 2-0

The second half saw Didi strike for the first goal. a well executed throw in within the 18 yard box saw the ball deflected to the far post. Didi made no mistake and headed the ball past the keeper.

The second goal was questionable. appeals for a hand ball were waved off as trainee Justin Ramires brought the ball down and struck it low past the keeper to make it 2-2.

Red devils kept applying pressure and were rewarded with 2 more goals to come off 4-2 winners.

KAFC regular season will start May 25th as the face off against the PHarm Dawgs at joe malone.

KAFC faces Red Devils

Kildonan Athletic hope to get a positive result when they face new MMSL team Red Devils united on Monday, May 11th at Sir William Osler school, 1600 grant ave.

Kildonan is looking at trimming their roster as they prepare for the beginning of the season, set to start after the May long weekend.

Kildonan follows up with another game on thursday, May 14 against D4 MMSL Forte United.

Kildonan was successful against forte last year finishing 2-0 winners.
thursday's game is tentatively scheduled for Springs Church on lagimodiere.

both games are to start at 7pm

KAFC vs Ragnarok -May 6

Despite a spirited performance, KAFC couldn't break down Ragnarok and wound up on the wrong end of a 3-0 loss.

with no keeper from the KAFC squad, they had to rely on a trainee from the ragnarok team, which we appreciated.

Ragnarok applied constant pressure for the first 20 minutes as KAFC tried to win the ball.

Ragnarok was rewarded with a low cross being met by a ragnarok forward and making no mistake, put it into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

that's how the first half ended, with KAFC producing some good attempts but nothing to trouble the ragnarok keeper.

KAFC seemed to settle down and controlled the ball a bit better. New signing Josh was denied by the square cross bar, as his 20 yard shot rebounded down on the goal line and out.

PCW boy Chuka almost converted with a long pass that he brought down. Having only needing to beat the keeper who was off his line, chuka wasn't able to get the chip off and it went to the waiting hands of the keeper.

Ragnarok added 2 more, one coming with 2 mintues to go, to walk away with a 3-0 victory

the game was played with sportsman ship, and KAFC wishes Ragnarok luck in the MMSL Division 2 this year.

KAFC announce new coach!!

KAFC are pleased to announce that Jim Conceicao will be co-coaching with David Stewart for the 2009 season.

Jim spent his younger years playing with the premier Italinter and Bari squads of the old MCSL.

More recently, he has won back to back outdoor titles with his Park city youth team, the 07/08 indoor youth championship and back to back playoff titles with Roma in the MMSL Division 1.

"i'm looking forward to the challenge of bringing a different set of knowledge and experience to help Kildonan athletic in the MSSL this year. I'm excited about this opportunity, as well as continuing to coach my Roma squad "

Jim will be bringing a handful of his youth team who are no longer eligible to playing youth soccer to the KAFC squad, as they look to improve on their dismal campaign in the 2008 season.

Practices continue every monday night, 8:30 pm - 10 pm at Ecole Central at 604 Day St.

KAFC to enter MSA Cup

Kildonan Athletic will be entering into the MSA cup for the 2009.

The MSA cup determines the provincial representative for senior men in manitoba each year. Similar to the English FA Cup, teams from the lower division play a single game knockout, with the winners advancing to the next round against higher division opposition.

As part of the MSSL, Kildonan Athletic FC will start in the first round against teams from the Wpg. Division and Division 4 of the MMSL
"The MSA cup will give our team another opportunity to hopefully play a couple of extra competitive games this season. We want to break up the monotony of playing the same teams year after year. We want to have what will be primarily a new team this year, get exposure to different types of opposition. Both Jim and I are looking forward to seeing how the boys will do"

Practices will continue every monday until the snow melts at Ecole Central at 604 day st.

Due to spring break, practice will be canceled for March 30th.
