Kildonan goes out with a whimper, not a bang

Kildonan faced off against the higher ranked Pharm Dawgs to conclude their final game of the season.

Kildonan had no bench. Injuries and prior commitments meant Kildonan had exactly 11 players, with Stubbs filling in net for the absent Chambers.

The dawgs got on the board 6 minutes in. A defensive mistake allowed Dawgs top goal scorer Omar to break in and record his 18th of the season.

Dawgs continually applied pressure, with Kildonan managing to stave off the brunt of it. Some bad bounces again left the backline flat footed and PD scored their 2nd and 3rd of the game

2nd half was no better. the dawgs keeper was rarely tested while Stubbs pulled off some fantastic saves to keep it respectable.

PD added another 2 and in the final minutes, Kildonan was awarded a penalty shot for a hand ball. Miguel confidently stepped up, but the dawgs keeper guessed right blocking the shot and blanking kildonan before the final whistle.

With the first round of the playoffs looming, Kildonan's season may already be over. 7 players, including both keepers, will be absent next Saturday, with another 5 players undecided/unconfirmed yet. Kildonan may have to forfeit the match against the 2nd place team, either OAH or the Dawgs, depending on the result of their last game.

In what was characterized as a frustrating season, the off season will be spent figuring out how to turn things around, or "close up shop" for good.

Next game-Thursday Aug.28

Kildonan plays their final game of the season against 4th place Pharm Dawgs at Shaftsbury 7pm

Kildonan currently sit tied for 7th spot with FC Revolucion. Revolucion plays White eagles in their final match and if history repeats itself, are sure to come out with a win.

The 6th or 7th spot comes as welcome relief as the rowdies only took 1 out of possible 6 pts. in their last 2 games. with a 9 team league, the 8th vs 9th place team will play for a spot in the playoffs.

Their last outing produced a 3-2 win over the Dawgs, but Kildonan's form has been inconsistent all season, producing 5 wins and 10 losses for the year.

Playoff schedule finalized

The MSSL playoff schedule has been announced. All quarter final games take place Saturday, Sept. 6th at the soccer complex, with the exception of the 1st vs 8th place game which will be held at SJR.
2nd vs 7th takes place at 2pm, Field #1

3rd vs 6th takes place at 2pm, Field #2

Kildonan's opponent is not finalized. With games still needing to be played this week, Kildonan sits tied with FC Revolucion at 15 pts.
Revolucion opponent is the white eagles and Kildonan takes on the Pharm Dawgs. The last meeting between Revolucion and White eagles had the Revs come out 5-0 winners.

All though the tie breaker system is not entirely clear, using the leaguelineup standing system, goal differential is the first tie breaker for the standings.

After the september long weekend, will show the match up for the quarter finals of the Victor's Cup.

KAFC salvages important 3 points
An important game for the boys in yellow. With fellow cellar dwellars the Rowdies making up important points with surprise wins over SJR, this pushed KAFC to start winning games.
With a recent loss to newcomers the White Eagles, KAFC morale was at an all time low. Their loss was the eagles first win of the year.

Sporting a makeshift lineup due to notable absences from Club top scorer Brokop, keeper "Chambers" and a host of others, they took to shaftsbury on a hot, humid thursday to face off against FC Revolucion, who started with 10 men.

Kildonan created most of the chances, with long, hard crosses by scottie to the far post, but no kildonan player was there to meet it.
Revolucion first good scoring chance came off a corner kick. The rev's player dove high and connected well with a header, which banged off the cross bar saving a sure goal.

second half continued the way the first half ended. kildonan came up with more opportunities, but be a little relaxed in the back provided the Revs with some goal scoring opportunities.
With 20minutes to spare, backup keeper David went out to challenge for a ball and twisted the wrong way, going down in heap. a freak accident, as there were no players around for contact. a subsequent check has revealed it could be an ACL tear, meaning not good news for the team manager/coach.

Zi"dan" went down 10 minutes later. a rev's player collided into his forearm, forcing him off the field

looking like it was going to go into a tie, Amp broke the deadlock, streaking from the left side and fired a left footed volley that gave the keeper no chance and more importantly, secured 3 points that KIldonan needed.

Thanks to scottie for minding the net in absence of David going off.

last game of the season is against the dawgs, followed by a 2 week layoff until the playoffs start.

Return of SS!
After coming off a disappointing 2-1 loss to Mb. United, Kildonan looked to add another W in the column against the Rowdies.

With Juan (S)aldivar and Lee (S)tubbs returning to the lineup, the attitude was more positive.

10 minutes in KAFC was rewarded with a hard shot that struck the crossbar, smacked down onto the crease, bounced out, hit a defender and a KAFC attacker before hitting the rowdies keeper and than finding its way to scott to put away the first marker.

A costly mistake by the backline allowed a rowdies through ball to the speedy greg hasiuk who chipped the oncoming jason to tie the game.

the second half started horribly, with KAFC too relaxed in their 18 yard box, allowed Hasiuk again to win a ball and beat jason on the near side to go up by 1.

in come Stubbs who controlled a long ball and beat 2 defenders to tie it up.

Rowdies provided lots of pressure, but were undone with a handball in their box with 6 minutes to go. Brokop stepped up and beat the Rowdies keeper to go up by 1.

Kildonan kept pressuring and a long ball found sean unmarked, who darted to the outside of the 18 and fed a low, hard cross to the streaking Didi halfway in the box.

Didi's lighting speed left a rowdies defender in the dust who opted to drag Didi down in the box for another penalty.

Sean stepped up again and went for the opposite side, beating the Rowdies keeper.

with that the ref blew the whistle and Kildonan fortunately came out 4-2 winners.

The win puts Kildonan in 6th place, but with 3 games in hand on MB united who are level on points.

Next up is the dreaded SJR fixture on tuesday July 15th.

In the past 3 seasons, Kildonan has failed to beat or tie SJR.

Didi in 1st half action

Miguel nets winner in nail biter finish

After an embarrasing 9-0 loss to SJR, Kildonan rebounded to squeak a late goal in the 88th minute to beat newcomers, the White Eagles 3-2 in action at Shaftsbury.

Brokop hard work paid off in the first half. despite missing the net a few times, he was finally rewarded with goal to put Kildonan up by 1.

it should have been 2, with a corner kick reaching the head of "Mattress"Devaney, but the shot was blocked by the keeper

Mattress was in action again, pouncing on a low cross he smashed it into the net only to have been judged offside.

Brokop added his second. a Kildonan corner kick was headed by a Eagles defender to the near post. this was covered by another eagles player, but could only manage to get it as far as sean, who standing near the goal line, made no mistake and made it 2.

Eagles got one back. miscommunication in the backline allowed the eagles player to run at Jason and make no mistake.

Eagles tied it up with a free kick outside the box. "Yogurt" Mantas was judged to have fouled the player. On the ensuing free kick, Lamber screamed for a properly setup wall, but was screened as the Eagles kicker blasted it into the net leaving Jason no chance.
The next 10 minutes was constant pressure from Kildonan. Both Didi and Jon missing glorious opportunities.

the pressure paid off in the 88th minute. a loose ball made it as far as stopper Miguel, who came in deep from his position. His chip shot dipped past the outstretched hands of the Eagles keeper and Kildonan secured the win, despite having 3 minutes of mystery 'extra time".

Kildonan has 2 games next week. Monday is the local derby against FC Kildonan, and Thursday against revamped FC Revolucion (formerly the Assassins)

Games will be at Joe Malone and Shaftsbury respectively with a 7:30 start time.

Corner Kicks: The backline were the bad boys of the day, with both Yogurt and Stewart picking up their first cautions of the season.

Brokop added to his goal tally to bring himself up to 4 for the season, with Miguel adding another to be 2nd in scoring with 3.

New signing Amp Inthalangsy from the Kildonan Cavaliers is adapting nicely to the Kildonan frontline, along with another new signing Marty Daneault.

Marty tries to win the ball

KAFC record first win

KAFC buoyed by a two goal performance from Brokop managed a narrow win over the older Rowdies squad.
The game was marred by some physicallity that Kildonan took in stride.
After a few chances that left Sean goalless, he was finally rewarded in the 35th minute.
a long ball through bounced uncontrollably off a rowdies defender, which was quickly snatched by Sean. Using his trademark move, run really fast and shoot he did just that to give Kildonan the lead.
Sean scored his second of the game, beating off a defender on his run and despite being body checked, still managed a hard low shot that beat the keeper to go ahead by 2.
Rowdies pulled 1 back on a free kick. Having failed to clear the ball, it bounced dangerously in the box and was pounced on by a Rowdies player who side footed it past chambers.
despite some more pressure, including a hard shot that rattled off the crossbar by newly converted striker David, KAFC managed to hold onto to the first win of the season.

Corner Kicks: Sean's two goals were his first of the season. He is now tied with Miguel who scored the only two goals in the home opening loss to OAH.
Chambers was back in between the pipes after missing the 4-2 loss to rivals Mb. United. Next up is 2007 league and playoff champions, SJR.
KAFC are 0-5 in the last 5 meetings with SJR.

KAFC drop 1st game

KAFC dropped their first game of the season in front of their away fans at Joe Malone, to a score of 3-2.
The game started well. With windy, cold conditions KAFC were rewarded in the 9th minute.
OAH failed to clear the ball out of their 18. A hungry Didi controlled the ball and shot toward the net, hitting an OAH hand in the box.
The ref whistled penalty shot and newly converted striker, Miguel stepped up to the spot and made no mistake beating the keeper on the left side.
Miguel added his second 10 minutes later. A scramble in the box and low cross was pounced on by miguel who hit it home again to make it 2-0.
5 minutes later, new defender Muhi was judged to have handled the ball in the 18 yard box.
Despite video evidence, the ball indeed hit his chest, but with his arms straight out like he was going to fly away, the ref thought otherwise.
Chambers readied himself in net. Having been outstanding in pre-season, he guessed right and blocked the penalty shot to preserve the lead.
Chambers continued his good form, stopping impossible shots until the 35th minute.
a cheap foul by the byline, 40 yards out gave OAH a direct free kick. Going against the wind, the shooter floated the ball toward goal, and caught chambers off his line, landing in the far corner to put them within 1.
Despite a half time pep talk, the 2nd half was marred by sloppy passing and lack of concentration.
Too many times the KAFC defense was caught by a 3 on 1 or 2 on 1. Eventually OAH would put these chances away, scoring twice.
KAFC tried to battle back, but OAH successfully played the "boot the ball down to the other end of the field" preventing a successful attack.
Nash had an opportunity with a free kick just outside the 18, that barely missed the inside near post. Brokop faught hard to win the through balls, but OAH countered by putting one of their more skilled players in the backline to harass Sean on any attacks.

Next up is MB United on monday the 26th. Cavs split the results last year and did not meet in the playoffs in 2007.
Man of the Match: Chambers. Jason continued his good form from pre-season and ensured that OAH scored no more than 3 goals.

Kildonan drops result to Ragnarok

On a wet, cold day, KAFC took to the pitch with less than the required 8 players to start the game.
Ragnarok kindly lent 2 players to start the match, which turned out to be in the first 15 minutes, a lot of pressure on Chambers in the KAFC net, than his counterpart on the opposite side.
With the addition of Nash and Mo, the borrowed Ragnarok players went back to their side, but showing great sportsmanship, team coach Colin, sat 2 players to make it even 9 on 9.
The difference didn't help. Kildonan conceded two well placed goals before the half.
Missing most of their starters from the previous 2 games, things didn't get better in the 2nd half.
Despite some hard performances, goal 3 for Ragnarok came from the head of defender Giorgo, who beat Jason to the ball to put it in his own net.
Goal 4 was a failure to clear the ball, of which a ragnarok attacker won, and put it past jason.
Final score 4-0. Taking nothing away from the Ragnarok performance, they created more chances and capitilized on them. It would be nice to see a full strength Kildonan squad against Ragnarok and see if there could be a different outcome.
Jason continued to play solid in net, surely reducing the amount of goals Ragnarok could have scored.
The Kildonan organization wishes Ragnarok the best of luck in their season, and prepares for their first league game, Tuesday May 20th at Joe Malone, 7:30 pm.
Their opponent is O.A.H (Oranges at Halftime). The last meeting was at the end of the '07 regular season as Kildonan went on to win 7-1.

Kildonan 2 Forte United 0

In what bodes well for KAFC this season, KAFC took another win against a resilient Forte United from the MMSL D4 side.
With windy, cold conditions, Kildonan fielded some possible new team members to the squad.
Kildonan limited many of Forte's chances, marking former Kildonan Defender Daniel Lemky and ensuring he had no shots on net.
Kildonan struck in the first half, with a goal by midfield veteran Scott Johnston. He capitilized on loose ball, courtesy of a corner kick, to put them up by one.
The first half also saw Forte admitting to a handball in the 18yd box. Scott struck the ball well, but the keeper guessed right and blocked, keeping the score at 1-0
Scott scored the 2nd goal of the game. a free kick near half was quickly taken, ending up in the 18 yard box. Scott did a neat little chip that beat the defenders and keeper and followed the ball into the net to make sure there was no mistake.
The score finished 2-0, in what was a well played match for both sides.
Kildonan wishes Forte luck in their season and look forward to facing them next year in pre-season.
Next up is Ragnarok FC, MMSL D3 on monday, May 12th.
Game time is 7:15pm at Transcona Stadium

Close game but Kildonan prevails

One goal seperated the two sides as Kildonan squeaked a win against Sparta F.C.
Despite a lot of new faces on the Kildonan bench, and lot's of rust from winter, Kildonan did not look out of place on the field.
Brutal Brokop and Strawberry wine produced a string of chances in the first half, but B.B. was denied by the post time and time again.
he was finally rewarded 30 minutes in when Lee floated a through ball to brokop who shook off his defender and calmly fired past the keeper to put them up by 1.
Lee was the provider again. A hard shot wasn't handled by the keeper and Lee applied some pressure, forcing the Sparta keeper to cough it up.
it landed to new defensive signing Julio who slotted into the open net to put them up by 2.
the 2nd half was a different story. legs began to tire and positioning was out the window as Sparta was all over KAFC, but were denied many times by Chambers in net.
Sparta's goal came on a free kick, as team owner, Darren Kuik was brought down by two KAFC defenders. although to have been judged in the box, Darren declined to take the penalty shot and opted for a free kick just outside.
it made no difference as darren faked his run and the Sparta player to his right rifled the ball with his left foot, beating the ill positioned wall and jason.
that's all she wrote, as kildonan hung onto their first pre-season victory.
Next up, Forte United at Springs CHurch- thursday at 7:15pm
