Kildonan Athletic 2012

Kildonan fall at first hurdle
Despite a strong last 5 games, Rowdies were the better side and wanted it more, scoring goals in both halves to win the game 2-0.
At most times Kildonan didn't seem to want the win as there was no sense of urgency when Kildonan didn't have the ball.
This loss eliminated Kildonan and continued the curse of not being able to get out of the first round of the playoffs for the past 5 seasons.
Overall a good but bittersweet season, with missing the league title by 1 point.
The coach wants to thank all of the hardwork the players put in this season and will be looking forward to Marchn 2013 when pre-season starts again and Kildonan search for the league crown.
Enjoy the winter.
Kildonan finish strong
Kildonan finished off the last week or the regular season with a 1-0 win over Fort Rouge Fury and an 11-2 win over Rott FC.
Despite these two wins, it wasn't enough for Kildonan to clinch first in the league, and finish off with 34 points, 1 point behind SJR who finished 1st.
Kildonan's 3 ties in their last 5 games doomed them to not be able to take the title home again, the last time being 2009.
Despite this it was a scorefest against Rott, with Bernd getting 1, finishing off his season with 10 for the year, 1 goal behind Warren who ended with a hat trick in this game and finished top goal scorer for 2012 with 11 goals on KAFC, and 2nd in the league behind Lindsay from SJR with 15.
Kildonan now get ready to face Rowdies in the first round of the playoffs to take place at the U of M turf field West, 10 pm on Tuesday, Sept. 11th.
With the playoffs Kildonan bid farewell to two important members. Paul Sheridan who left for University in Ontario, and Bernd who is going on holidays but hopefully we'll be back for next season.
Kildonan would like to thank Paul for his contribution this year and wish him all the best in his future studies.
Kildonan settle for a draw
Despite a must win game, Kildonan had to settle for a draw despite a strong performance.
It took 25 minutes for the first goal to be scored, with Bernd running with the balling, evading 4 Rowdies players to put a low shot at the far post and beating the Rowdies Keeper.
Today's game was marked by crossbars and some strong saves from the Rowdies keeper, who denied 2 definate goals.
Just before the half, some sloppy play allowed a Rowdies player the ball from the touchline and spotting Devin off his line, took a chance and smacked the ball toward net.
He guessed correct with Devin unable to get back and knock the ball over the crossbar and out of the net, tieing the game at 1.
Despite heavy pressure from Kildonan, they couldn't break the deadlock, despite being in the Rowdies half for the last 10 minutes.
With the tie Kildonan are now relying on other results to help them in the quest for first.
Next up is Manitoba united who gave Kildonan a tough time in their first meeting even with the Kildonan win.
Must win game ends in draw
In a must win game to keep pace with the top teams, Kildonan had to settle for a draw that felt like a loss, 1-1 against SJR.
Despite having a makeshift backline with most of the defenders absent, Amp and Didi settled in well and helped Paul control and limit most of SJR chances.
Kildonan did well to frustrate SJR in the first half, closing them down and limiting their chances on the ball.
Kildonan opened scoring when a free kick just outside the box had Seba trying to position himself in the SJR wall, well inside the 18.
Seba was dragged down before the kick was taken and a penalty was given.
Warren made no mistake for his 8th of the year and we were up by 1.
Despite a handball in the box and some calls not going KAFC way, Kildonan pressed but were unable to break through.
70 mins. in one little mistake with a weak past out of the 18 allowed SJR to pounce on it and feed the ball to the far side where a SJR player was unmarked. Despite getting back, they were unable to stop the shot and SJR tied it up.
Kildonan kept pressing and in the 90th minute a cross from Christophe found Adam in the 6 yard box. He failed to control the ball and slipped while taking his shot, popping the ball up but yet the SJR keeper couldnt' get ahold of it.
Dan was right there and tried one-timing it with his left foot but his volley sailed over the crossbar and past the wide open net.
It was a frustrating miss as the ref blew his whistle to signal the end of the game.
Even though Kildonan used a new system, they adapted well and everyone played a part in making sure it was a tie.
Luis was the makeshift keeper and made some big saves to keep kildonan in the game.
Next up is a week off and then Rowdies on the 13th and Manitoba United on the 16th. ALl games are must win if Kildonan wants a chance at lifting the trophy at the end of the season.
Kildonan take another 3 points
It took 6 minutes for Kildonan to open up the scoring. Some great passing for the first 4 minutes saw Kildonan with 100% possession of the ball.
Nick got his first of the season and first with the club as a well placed ball from Bernd found Nick well out of the 18 who hit the ball hard and nailed the top corner to give Kildonan the lead.
Paul Jones scored the 2nd of the evening, a loose ball after a Kildonan corner kick just outside the 6 yard box and Paul made no mistake beating the keeper and last defenders.
Warren got the 3rd. Running away from the far post he swiveled and smashed the ball into the top corner with the Oranje keeper having no chance.
Kildonan took their foot off the gas pedal into the 2nd half and allowed more chances then SC Oranje deserved.
A defensive mixup between the backline allowed a wayward past to devin totally miss him and go into the net, even though a Oranje player was credited with the goal.
10 mins. from time Elijah got the fourth when he was left unmarked and strolled into with a low hard shot to beat the keeper.
Next up FCKildonan who will be looking to avenge their loss to KAFC earlier in the year.
Positive week for Kildonan
Kildonan capped off a tough week of matches tieing the first place, only undefeated team in the MSSL, Fort Rouge fury.
Kildonan started off well and applied pressure to FRF right away. 6 mins. in Bernd made a run and got the ball near the corner and evaded a few tackles to feed the ball to Didi who hit a long hard shot from outside the 18 to beat the keeper at the far post and go up 1-0, Didi's first from the season.
Kildonan struck again, Bernd setting it up with another run from the corner. The ball was stopped by the keeper but couldn't handle it. When he dropped it, it fell to the foot of adam who had an easy tap in and got his 2nd in two games.
Fort rouge struck back on a defensive lapse that allowed a FRF striker to win the ball and under pressure still put the ball away past Devin.
The 2nd was a questionable goal with the player offside but the refs position could not and would not call it. This allowed the attacker to shoot and tie up the game at 2.
No scoring in the 2nd half despite some great opportunities with Adam smacking a free kick off the crossbar that bounced out and back into the field of play.
A good result considering Fort rouge is undefeated and the struggles Kildonan had against Manitoba United earlier this week.
A week off break and then up next is a much improved SC Oranje who have added some depth to their roster and are becoming a harder team to beat.
Kildonan suffer first defeat
Kildonan suffered their first defeat of the season to SJR, losing 3-0.
Kildonan played a fantastic first half limiting SJR scoring chances and only made 1 mistake that allowed SJR to get one in before the half.
Pedro went off in the first half due to a aggressive challenge from a SJR player, but it was determined thankfully that nothing was broken in his shoulder. KAFC is expecting Pedro to heal and be back in the lineup in the next couple of weeks.
The 2nd half was a different game. Kildonan looked sluggish and had very little opportunities at the SJR net. SJR captilized on 2 more occasions in the 18 yard box, the first one coming at the 75 minute mark and the 2nd one in the 80th minute.
Kildonan needs to rebound this week as they play Manitoba United Monday and Fort Rouge on Wednesday, who are still undefeated this season.
Both games at Joe Malone, starting at 7:30 pm.
Kildonan welcomes 2 additions
Kildonan is pleased to welcome 2 new additions to the team.
Dwayne Oliferchuk has been coming out to practice for the past month and working hard to get a spot on the team. Kildonan is happy to welcome him to the "family"
K.A.F.C is also pleased to welcome back Stewart Wiltshire from a short time off. Due to family commitments Stewart couldn't sign with the club at the beginning of the season but now has the time to come out.
Kildonan makes it 5 in a row
Kildonan entered their 5th match of the season expecting a tough battle with an experienced Rowdies side. Rowdies have been stingy in letting goals in with their losses and were warned that they were good on set pieces.
Sure enough 2 mins. in Kildonan gave up a corner kick and Rowdies capitalized on slack marking to allow a free attacker head the ball unchallenged, past Devin to go up by 1.
Credit to Kildonan where in past years they would hang their heads and not perform to their potential. Kildonan fought back and put pressure on the Rowdies keeper and were unlucky with the first couple of chances.
There were finally rewarded with some pressure that allowed Daniel to take a shot and get his second of the season.
Bernd got the 5th of the season and helped KAFC take the lead when he evading some defenders and took a shot that beat the Rowdies keeper.
Kildonan allowed the Rowdies get back into the game when the defense got sucked in to the middle to win the ball, leaving a Rowdies attacker onside and by himself outside the 18 yard box. The ball got to him and he made no mistake beating Devin to tie it up.
Kildonan kept up the pressure for most of the 2nd half and it took to the 75th minute for Bernd to get the go ahead goal and eventual winner.
From there Athletic had to kill off the game and keep it in the Rowdies half for the remainder.
With the win Kildonan goes 5-0, a first for the club and now prepare to take on SJR, who Kildonan failed to beat last year.
KAFC win again
KAFC faced new MSSL entry Das Boot and wasn't sure what to expect for their first game against them
They found a younger team that did work hard but 15 minutes in were able to break the deadlock with the first goal. A penalty shot when Warren was dragged down in the box. He took the resulting kick and although the keeper guessed right and got a piece of it, the shot was too hard to keep out.
Bernd got his 3rd of the year shortly after, a hard shot from outside the 18 giving the keeper no chance.
No more scoring for the 1st half and after a longer break due to the heat, KAFC pushed forward and went on for 4 more goals.
Bernd got his 2nd of the night another great long, hard shot from well outside the 18 beating the keeper.
Warren setup the 4th, a corner kick that looked rehearsed, he found an unmarked Paul Jones at the top of the 18 and floated a perfectly weighted ball that Jones got up and headed the ball down, hitting the goal line and bouncing up to hit the underside of the crossbar giving the Das Boot keeper no chance.
Newcomer Gregg got the 5th, a fantastic strike while lurking on the outside of the 18 yard box. He took a shot on the volley after maneurvering around an attacker beating the keeper with ease.
Elijah scored the final of the game. What should have been offside, the ref missed it as he followed the bouncing ball around the keeper and headed it downward to sneak past the keeper and defender. An ugly goal but it still counts.
Kildonan takes on Rowdies on the 11th who have been stingy in letting goals in for their first 5 games. A tough match is expected.
KAFC takes 3 points in the derby
Kildonan finally took 3 points from FCKildonan in a hard fought win last week, beating FCK 5-4.
Despite going down 2-0 in the first 20 minutes Kildonan Athletic didn't give up. Kildonan first goal was created by one of the first corner kicks of the game. Dan gordon sent a perfect in-swinging ball to the center of the net were a FCK defender accidently turned it in to his own goal giving KAFC a goal.
Kildonan added their 2nd on their next corner kick. Again Dan the provider as he sent in another great cross this time met by Bernd who headed past the keeper and FCK defenders to tie it up.
Adam added a 3rd taking a speculative shot from the far right out line. What should have been a cross ended up being sliced and ended up in the back of the net beating the FCK keeper who misjudged the ball.
KAFC started the 2nd half with confidence and pressed the FCK team who had less subs. James made a great individual effort beating a defender and then the keeper with a low shot extending the lead to 2.
Newcomer Daniel added the 5th and KAFC looked to be in control of their first ever win.
Disappointingly KAFC lost possession and control and FCK added a 3rd in the 80th minute when the ball found an unmarked attacker, bounced off his face, landed at his feet and making it an easy goal.
FCK didn't give up and added a 4th in the 89th minute to get close but not enough to mess up the day for KAFC.
Kildonan Athletic hopes to extend their winning streak to 3 games as they take on SC Oranje at Joe Malone tonight, 7:30 pm.
SC Oranje have only played once this year, losing 4-0 to Fort Rouge.
Kildonan finally took 3 points from FCKildonan in a hard fought win last week, beating FCK 5-4.

SC Oranje have only played 1 game this season, losing 4-0 to Fort Rouge
KAFC make it 3 in a row
Despite a water soaked field and approx. 70 mins. of rain, Kildonan came out on the positive end of a 2-0 result against SC Oranje.
SC Oranje showed improvement from their off season signings but a bad bounce and early pressure allowed Luis to get the opening goal at the 1 min. mark to make it 1-0
Warren made it 2-0 with a free kick just outside the 18 yard box. Warren placed his shot in the top right corner leaving the keeper no chance.
The rest of the game saw some missed chances, slipping on the ground and wayward shots but Kildonan was resilient and handled the pressure in the final 10 minutes to keep a clean scoresheet and give Devin a shut-out for the season.
Next up is Das Boot, a new entry into the MSSL for 2012. Game will be Monday
June 4th at Joe Malone, 7:30 pm.
Welcome to the team
KAFC would like to welcome some new faces to the 2012 squad.
Paul Sheridan
Nick Dupuis
Christophe Heral
Daniel Mulaire
Gregg Seniuk
Bernd Siebert
We would like to say goodbye but hopefully not for good to Giorgo Mantas, Stewart Wiltshire and Phil Buccol who are taking this year off.
Up and down results
In the "Kildonan Kup" KAFC got mixed results, being on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline vs Ragnarok, and then rebounding to 2-0 win against Sparta.
Ragnarok got off to a quick start with a team full of young, fast individuals. Ragnarok capitalize on 2 defensive errors that gave them a 2-0 lead.
Kildonan struck back with some great individual play from Didi who managed to hang onto the ball despite some rebounds and fancy footwork. After managing some space, he crossed the ball over to an unmarked Christophe who made no mistake burying the ball in back of the net at the near post.
It was undone shortly as Ragnarok found more space and took a speculative shot from long range that caught Devin by surprise to give them a 3rd goal.
That was it for scoring for the entire game as the 2nd half was a stalemate with no more goals scored.
Kildonan vs Sparta had a more positive result as Didi and Gregg were the goal scorers to give KAFC the win over Sparta.
Some good points to take away from both games as Kildonan will continue to practice in preparation for their upcoming season to start in Mid-May.
Off to a good start
Kildonan was off to a good start in rainy, cold conditions on April 17th.
Warren got kildonan on the score board with a great low, hard shot that beat the keeper tucking inside the near post.
Trialist Gregg responded 5 minutes later with a low drive beating the keeper to give KAFC 2.
Paul Jones rounded off the scoring just before half when a ball was mishandled by the keeper and Paul was there to slot the rebound home.
Transcona responded with a long range shot that Devin had no chance on.
Elijah added the fourth in the second half, another great long range goal that rattled off the inside post and into the net.
Transcona added another one but a corner kick a few minutes from full time found a transcona defender being pressured by Adam trying to win the ball. The end result was the defender putting the ball into the back of his own net.
Overall a not bad performance from Kildonan. It was a pleasure playing Transcona who were a classy team and no dangerous or silly tackles from either side.
Next up is MSL D3 Ragnarok at noon on saturday the 21st, and then MSL D5 Sparta at 1:45 pm.
Both games will take place at Crocus park, (Victoria Jason Park)
