The Holbrook 10's advanced to the D18 Championship Game last night with a big 19 - 0 win over Lacey LL. The Holbrook offense pounded out 20 hits including 3 Homeruns - Chris Cartnick INTO the net... RJ Vashey OVER the net and Garret Drew OFF the HARMONY BANK sign to win $100!! Cartnick added 2 1/2 Doubles and had 6 RBI. John Grano had 3 hits. RJ Vashey had 3 hits (Single, Double, HR and 3RBI). Grano, Tai Mann & Cartnick all scored 3 Runs as every spot in the lineup had at least 1 hit and 1 run scored in the shortened game. Dean Daddio got the "W" pitching 3 shutout innings, yielding just 1 hit and striking out 4. Great Job Boys!!!

4) SUNDAY 7/12 - Holbrook 11's started (FINALLY) pool play at Holbrook against Barnegat. The boys jumped out to a 13 -5 lead but 2, 2run homers for Barnegat in the 6th inning turned the game into an "almost" nail biter as Holbrook held on to win 13-9!! Next up for the 11's is a game at Holbrook TONIGHT at 5:30 in game 1 of a back to back Holbrook 11's & Holbrook 10's doubleheader!! And then on to Berkeley on Thursday for the 11's. 2) FRIDAY 7/10 : Holbrook's D18 LL Softball Champs went up against perennial powerhouse, Robbinsville and needed to win one of two games to capture the Section 3 Championship. The girls suffered one bad inning in the first game and lost 5-0. The second game was a see-saw battle all the way and one of the most fun and exciting LL games you could ever watch. Holbrook took a 2-0 lead and was tied by Robbinsville in the 3rd. They took a 5-3 lead and we tied it at 5 in the 5th. The 6th inning will forever be one of those "If Only" situations for both teams!! Holbrook went ahead in the top of the inning 7-5 and needed just 3 outs to dethrone the defending Little League World Series Champions!! An amazing position to be in for a program that didn't exist 3 years ago!! (Lets pause while everyone who thinks they are solely responsible for bringing Softball to Holbrook takes a bow...) Sarcasm people...) Robbinsville put runners on base immediately in the bot 6th and scored a run, to make it 7-6 on a bases loaded ground out. With runners on second and third, the packed crowd somehow knew that the game would end one way or the other with the next batter. A seeing eye grounder up the middle would bring home the tieing run as the runner from second raced home to try and win it. The throw from CF was seconds late as the winning run slid home to break the Holbrook Hearts, 8-7. :( Our girls made Holbrook proud and they put Robbinsville on notice that there is another sheriff in town and a force to be reckoned with in the future. Many thanks to our girls who truly inspired all of those who had a chance to watch them on this run!! Thanks to Manager Steve Dubiago and coaches John Ski, Steve Tavaska and Mike Dougherty for their efforts and dedication to get the girls to believe that they had a chance to beat Robbinsville!! This team did not have to win to prove that they are true Champions!! :)

It was a very busy All-Star & Tournament weekend!! Sorry that I haven't been able to send any updates but I'll try to catch up. Here are District All-Star Baseball & Softball results & updates since Friday. 1) FRIDAY 7/10 - Holbrook's Baseball 12's went up against Toms River for the second time in 4 days and came up short 15 -9. They gave it a tough fight and actually lead 6-4 on Carl Barth's grand slam. Their chance to try and topple Jackson LL ended with that game but the boys made us proud and had a great run for a team that not too many people gave a chance to. Thank you to Mike Kinsman, Gene Barth and Brian Bianchino for keeping the boys focused on the goal and never wavering in their confidence for this team!! When I asked some of the boys last night, after JLL mercied Toms River in the Championship Game if they would have rather played Jackson with the possibility of getting 10 runned, or watch the game as they did, they ALL said..."We still would have wanted to play, and we WOULD NOT have been 10 runned"!! Honesty and confidence to the end. They made us proud!!

In one of the most exciting games of the All-Star season, our Baseball 12's lost a heartbreaker to our old nemesis Toms River, 9-8. An early homerun by Daniel Keenan put Holbrook up 4-1 before TR came storming back and took an 8-4 lead. A Jacob Tafrow 3 run homer made the game 8-7 as Sebastian Marc shut the door on TR to keep it close. Down 9-7 in the top 6th, a bases loaded 2 out single to left by Keenan looked like the game would be tied but a strong throw from the leftfielder and a nice catch and tag by the catcher nailed Sean Yurgel at the plate to end the game!! Shades of games against TR past!! But our boys will be back on Thursday against Berkeley and will get another shot at TR or Jackson before this is all over. Heads high boys!! Very proud of you!!
